The Academic Board is the body within the project with a key role in QA processes related to PhD curricula and syllabi design. The board consists of 10 experts (3x3+1, i.e. 3 per global area of mathematical sciences in pure mathematics, applied mathematics and theoretical computer science and the chairperson) agreed upon by the Consortium Members. The Academic Board members have been elected not as institutional representatives but as individuals, based on their international academic standing and areas of mathematical expertise and the readiness to contribute to the success of the project. As an outcome of the conducted procedure, it consists of five members from EU and five from WB universities what represents a good balance in the process of assessing optimal directions towards achieving the project goals of harmonized PhD programme up to EHEA-ERA standards.

The tasks of the Academic Board so far have been to give recommendations concerning the core knowledges to be included in PhD curricula of networked institutions, to make evaluation of the outputs of SEE Young Researchers Workshop, to take the lead in designing the syllabi for six model PhD courses in the third project’s year and propose lecturers for these courses, to monitor the progress on development of harmonized PhD programme at partner universities. It was involved in designing two pre-doctoral coures taking place in 2010.

For monitoring purposes, the Academic Board recommended an evaluation procedure based on evaluation forms for the project events.

AB Meetings

Four monitoring visits to University of Sarajevo (December 10, 2009; CC members from Tuzla and Banja Luka also present), University of Belgrade (March 23, 2010), University of Shkodra (April 9, 2010) and University of Montenegro (May 14, 2010) by NTO’s representatives and in the case of Sarajevo as the grant holding institution also by the corresponding EACEA project advisor, have proved stimulative for the project management. Feedback on these visits offered useful insights and hints for further coordination of project activities.
