Student mobility is related to participation in the creation of PhD curricula, participation of WB students at master level and PhD level courses developed in the framework of JP and participation of EU students at master and PhD courses.
In the first and the second year of the project there were three mobilities related to the creation of PhD curricula.
In the second year of the project two master courses in Mathematical Modelling and Financial and Actuarial Mathematics will be held in summer semester. The intensive course in Mathematical Modelling has already begun, with 25 students (22 from WB and 3 EU) participating. The interest for the second course is also very high and the same number of students is expected to participate in it.
All students for the second cycle courses are firstly selected by their home institutions, based on their qualifications, previous courses taken, grades and mathematical interest. Each institution may propose up to six students, and the final selection is made according to the interest for a certain course, the number of students applied and their qualifications.
Courses in Mathematical Modelling and Financial Mathematics both consist of two modules. Each module has 8 ECTS credits (i.e. each course has 16 ECTS credits) that may be transferred and recognized by the home institution for all students (both WB and EU) participating at the course.
Both courses under Outcome IV.2. were moved to the summer semester, since it appeared to be the most convenient time for the students of the second cycle.
The third year of the project is SEE Doctoral Year 2011. It is the JP objective that this be the first year of the joint PhD programme in mathematics of WB partner universities. The PhD programme in the first year is divided into three global mathematical areas: Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Computer Science. According to the curricula each area has two core courses that will be taught during the first year (2011). All core courses developed in the framework of JP consist of three modules, 10 ECTS credits each. At WB partner institutions each PhD course is recognized as 30 ECTS credits. At University of Graz, each course is recognized as meeting the requirements of four semester hours.
It is planned that 24 students (20 WB and 4 EU) participate at each course. They will be firstly selected by their home institutions, based on their research interest, course pre-requisites, qualifications and research proposal. Each institution may propose up to six students, and the final selection will be made according to the interest for a certain course, the number of students applied and their qualifications.
