Βασίζεται στο βιβλίο της λάιονελ Σράιβερ, αλλά ακολουθεί μια καθαρά κινηματογραφική λογική με συγκλονιστικό αποτέλεσμα. Η σπουδαία βρετανίδα σκηνοθέτις λυν Ράμσεϋ (αξίζει να αναζητήσετε τις ταινίες της Ratcatcher" και Morvern Callar"), με όπλο μια εκπληκτική δουλειά σε φωτογραφία, μοντάζ και ήχο, αποδομεί το δράμα ακολουθώντας τη θρυμματισμένη σκέψη και ψυχολογία της ηρωίδας. Καθοδηγεί ένα θαυμάσιο καστ, με κορυφαία την... εξωγήινα γήινη Τίλντα Σουίντον που δίνει, πιθανότατα, την ερμηνεία της χρονιάς.
