Ρομαντισμός σε τεχνικολόρ και σινεμασκόπ...Ο Nasser-Ali, ταλαντούχος μουσικός, χάνει τηδιάθεσή του για ζωή όταν η σύζυγός του σπάει το αγαπημένο του Ταρ (ιρανικό μουσικό όργανοπου μοιάζει με το βιολί) κατά τη διάρκεια ενός καυγά...Τεχεράνη 1958. Ο Νάσερ Άλι Χαν, ο πιο γνωστόςβιολιστής, βρίσκεται με σπασμένο βιολί. Αδυνατώντας να βρει άλλο για να το αντικαταστήσει,νιώθει αβάσταχτη τη ζωή του χωρίς μουσική.Μένει ξαπλωμένος στο κρεβάτι του και βυθίζεται όλο και πιο βαθιά στις ονειροπολήσεις της νιότης του αλλά και στα όνειρα για το μέλλον των παιδιών του.
Κατά τη διάρκεια των εβδομάδων που θα ακολουθήσουν, και καθώς τα κομμάτια αυτής της συναρπαστικής ιστορίας αρχίζουν να πλάθουν ένα αρμονικό σύνολο, μαθαίνουμε το συγκινητικό του μυστικό και κατανοούμε το βάθος της απόφασής του να εγκαταλείψει τη ζωή για τη μουσική και την αγάπη. «Poulet aux Prunes» ο τίτλος, δηλαδή κοτόπουλο με δαμάσκηνα και, όχι, δεν πρόκειται ξανά για animation ? οι ίδιοι οι δημιουργοί της λένε ότι ενώ θα τους ήταν πολύ εύκολο να ξανακάνουν το «Περσέπολις» σε αμέτρητα σίκουελ, προτίμησαν να μάθουν κάτι καινούριο: το σινεμά σε live action.
Η ταινία είναι ένα συγκινητικό δράμα, τοποθετημένο, φυσικά, στην Τεχεράνη, στα τέλη της δεκαετίας του ?50, βασισμένο και πάλι σε κόμικ της Σατραπί. Ο Νάσερ, διάσημος μουσικός, έχει χάσει κάθε όρεξη για ζωή, απ?όταν καταστράφηκε το αγαπημένο του βιολί. Η θλίψη του γίνεται ακόμα μεγαλύτερη όταν η κοπέλα που είχε ερωτευτεί στα νιάτα του, τον συναντά και δεν τον αναγνωρίζει. Ο Νάσερ δεν έχει πια τίποτε άλλο να κάνει, παρά να μείνει στο κρεβάτι του και να περιμένει να πεθάνει. Οκτώ μέρες αργότερα, ο Νάσερ κηδεύεται. Ολοι οι άνθρωποι που τον αγάπησαν στέκονται γύρω του. Η ιστορία μπορεί να ξεκινήσει?Η υπόθεση της ταινίας μοιάζει αρκετά τρυφερή, λυρική και σκληρή, ώστε να ταιριάζει με το στίγμα των Σατραπί και Παρονό. Για την αισθητική προσέγγιση στο φιλμ, ο Παρονό μας ανοίγει την όρεξη: «Η ταινία είναι γυρισμένη ολόκληρη μέσα σε στούντιο, ως αναφορά στο σινεμά της παλαιάς κινηματογραφικής φρουράς, του Χίτσκοκ, του Μουρνάου, σε σινεμασκόπ και με κομμάτια τεκνικολόρ.» Ως προς το περιεχόμενο της ταινίας, η Σατραπί εξηγεί: «Χρησιμοποιούμε το θάνατο του Νάσερ για να μιλήσουμε για τη ζωή του, αλλά και για την πολυπλοκότητα της ζωής γενικά. Οταν η ζωή φτάνει στη μεγαλύτερη δυστυχία, κάτι θα γίνει και όλοι θα ξεσπάσουμε σε γέλια. Κάποια στιγμή όλα σταματούν και κάποια στιγμή ξεκινούν πάλι.» Και ο Παρονό προσθέτει: «Παρότι σιχαίνομαι αυτήν την έκφραση, η ταινία μας είναι μια κραυγή αγάπης! Η Μαρζάν κι εγώ είμαστε μεγάλοι σινεφίλ. Βλέπουμε λοιπόν αυτήν τη μεγαλειώδη οθόνη και μέσα της βρίσκονται οι δικές μας ιδέες, λίγο ηλίθιες, λίγο φιλοσοφικές, αστείες ή μελαγχολικές.» Στο «Poulet aux Prunes» πρωταγωνιστεί ένα διεθνές καστ, ο Ματιέ Αμαλρίκ, ο Τζαμέλ Ντεμπούζ, ο Εντουάρ Μπερ, η Ιρανή καλλονή του «About Elly», Γκολσιφτέ Φαραχανί, ο Ερίκ Καραβακά, η Ιζαμπέλα Ροσελίνι, η Κιάρα Μαστρογιάνι και η Μαρία ντε Μεντέιρος.
