Η ταινία έκπληξη του φετινού καλοκαιριού, κατάφερε να μετατραπεί σε τεράστια εισπρακτική επιτυχία, αναγκάζοντας εκατομμύρια Αμερικανούς να λυγίσουν μπροστά στο σπαρακτικό μεγαλείο της πιο ασυμβίβαστης κινηματογραφικής αγάπης.
Η Χέιζελ και ο Γκας είναι δυο ξεχωριστοί έφηβοι που μοιράζονται τον ίδιο, μοναδικά καυστικό, ξεχωριστό χαρακτήρα, μια κοινή περιφρόνηση απέναντι σε καθετί συμβατικό και συνηθισμένο, αλλά και μια αγάπη, σαρωτική και ανεξέλεγκτη, που θα τους οδηγήσει αναπόφευκτα ? κι εμάς μαζί τους - σ? ένα αξέχαστο ταξίδι ζωής . Γνωρίστηκαν και ερωτεύτηκαν σε μια ομάδα υποστήριξης καρκινοπαθών, κι αυτό είναι που κάνει τη σχέση τους πολύ πιο μαγική και συναρπαστική.
Η Χέιζελ Γκρέις Λάνκαστερ (Σέιλιν Γούντλι) είναι μόλις δεκαέξι χρονών. Ανά φάσεις αγαπά, ή απλώς ανέχεται κατά περίπτωση, την έντονη παρουσία και τον υπερβάλλοντα ζήλο των υπέρ-δοτικών της γονέων, ενώ κατά τ? άλλα είναι αδιαμφισβήτητα τσιμπημένη με τον, επίσης ερωτευμένο, Γκας Ουότερς (Άνσελ Έλγκορτ). Μεγαλώνοντας, η Χέιζελ και ο Γκας μοιράζονται τις ανησυχίες τους για τα θέματα υγείας, καθώς επίσης και μια κοινή αγάπη για τη λογοτεχνία και τα βιβλία - με αιχμή του δόρατος το αγαπημένο βιβλίο της Χέιζελ, «Μια Αυτοκρατορική Ασθένεια» (An Imperial Affliction).
Η Χέιζελ έχει προσπαθήσει επανειλημμένα στο παρελθόν, να έρθει σε επαφή με τον μοναχικό συγγραφέα του βιβλίου, Πίτερ Βαν Χάουτεν (Ουίλεμ Νταφό) , εις μάτην όμως. Όταν ο Γκας καταφέρνει τελικά να επικοινωνήσει με την προσωπική βοηθό του Βαν Χάουτεν, θα τους δοθεί μια εκπληκτική ευκαιρία, να συναντήσουν τον συγγραφέα, από κοντά, στο Άμστερνταμ. Ο Γκας είναι αποφασισμένος να οδηγήσει την Χέιζελ σε ένα μακρύ ταξίδι προκειμένου να καταφέρει να λύσει όλες της τις απορίες, σχετικά με το βιβλίο που σημαίνει τόσα πολλά για την ίδια και τη ζωή της.
Ωστόσο οι απαντήσεις που με πάθος γύρευε η Χέιζελ σε όλη της τη ζωή, δεν θα έρθουν από το στόμα του συγγραφέα του αγαπημένου της βιβλίου, αλλά από την κοινή περιπέτεια που μοιράστηκε με έναν άνθρωπο που δεν φοβήθηκε να αγαπήσει? Μια σπουδαία περιπέτεια που χάρισε και στους δύο την αίσθηση μιας «μικρής αιωνιότητας», ένα μικρό «για πάντα», ασφυκτικά - όμως και μαγικά - περιορισμένο στο στενό χρονικό πλαίσιο λίγων μόλις ημερών!
Από το βιβλίο στη μεγάλη οθόνη
Το μυθιστόρημα «Το Λάθος Αστέρι», του Τζον Γκρίν εκδόθηκε στις 10 Ιανουαρίου του 2012, ανοίγοντας στην πρώτη θέση της λίστας με τα μπεστ σέλερ, στους New York Times. Ξεκίνησε να γράφει το βιβλίο το 2000, αμέσως μετά τη θητεία του σε νοσοκομείο παίδων και εξηγεί: «Ήθελα να γράψω μια ιστορία για νέους ανθρώπους, ακριβώς σαν αυτούς που γνώρισα στο νοσοκομείο ? αστείους, γεμάτους ζωή και ευχάριστες προσωπικότητες που λατρεύεις να περνάς χρόνο μαζί τους.»
«Ήθελα, επίσης, ?Το Λάθος Αστέρι? να είναι και μια ιστορία αγάπης, χωρίς ωστόσο να είναι ξεκάθαρη στο μυαλό μου η ακριβής μορφή της», συνεχίζει και καταλήγει: «Τελικά, μετά από χρόνια αναζητήσεων και σκέψης για τους χαρακτήρες μου, ανακάλυψα την Χέιζελ και τον Γκας, δυο χαρακτήρες με πολύ διαφορετική κοσμοθεωρία και αντίθετες απόψεις για τη ζωή? Δυο ανθρώπους οι οποίοι ήρθαν κοντά λόγω της αγάπης τους - μια αγάπη στην οποία δε μπορούσαν να αντισταθούν - αλλά και λόγω της κοινής τους λατρείας για ένα βιβλίο.»
Πριν ακόμη εκδοθεί καλά καλά το βιβλίο, το Χόλιγουντ είχε ήδη στρέψει τις κεραίες του προς τον συγγραφέα, ο οποίος ωστόσο ήταν φοβερά διστακτικός ως προς αυτή την κατεύθυνση. Ο Γκρίν ένιωθε ότι η ιστορία ήταν πολύ προσωπική και πως δεν θα ήθελε να τη δει να γίνεται ταινία. Και κάπου εκεί, παρουσιάστηκε στο προσκήνιο ο Ουίκ Γκόντφρι, παραγωγός της επιτυχημένης κινηματογραφικής σειράς «Λυκόφως» (Twilight), η οποία βασιζόταν στα επιτυχημένα βιβλία της Στέφανι Μέιερ.
Ο Ουίκ, γνωρίζοντας τη διστακτικότητα του συγγραφέα, τον προσέγγισε μέσω της Fox 2000, με την οποία κινήθηκαν άμεσα προκειμένου να διασφαλίσουν τα δικαιώματα της ταινίας. Συγκεκριμένα, ο Τζον Γκριν θυμάται χαρακτηριστικά τον Ουίκ να αναφέρει ότι «Όπως το βιβλίο δεν είναι μια ιστορία για τον καρκίνο, έτσι και η ταινία δεν θα είναι ένα φιλμ για την αρρώστια» και ότι «Ο Ουίκ δεν ήθελε η ταινία να είναι συναισθηματική ή διδακτική, ως πως το πώς πρέπει όλοι μας να είμαστε ευγνώμονες για την κάθε μέρα που περνάμε ζωντανοί και υγιείς. Παρά είχε στο νου του να συμβάλλει στη δημιουργία μιας ταινίας άγριας και συναρπαστικής, μιας ταινίας που να αποτίνει φόρο τιμής στην ανθρώπινη ζωή?» και αυτό ακριβώς ήταν που έπεισε τον συγγραφέα να δώσει το πράσινο φως για την κινηματογραφική του μεταφορά.
«Ήθελα η ταινία να είναι διασκεδαστική και να αφήνει στους θεατές μια ευχάριστη αίσθηση μετά το τέλος της. Ήθελα να τους αποτυπωθεί η ιδέα ότι μια σύντομη ζωή μπορεί να είναι εξίσου όμορφη και πλήρης. Και ευτυχώς το ίδιο όραμα μοιραζόντουσαν μαζί μου, τόσο ο παραγωγός Ουίκ Γκόντφρι, όσο και ο executive producer, Άιζακ Κλάουσνερ», καταλήγει ο Τζον Γκριν.
Οι ηθοποιοί της ταινίας
Η Σέιλιν Γούντλι (Χέιζελ Γκρέις Λάνκαστερ) έγινε διάσημη από τη βραβευμένη της ερμηνεία στην υποψήφια για Όσκαρ ταινία «Οι Απόγονοι» του Αλεξάντερ Πέιν, όπου πρωταγωνιστούσε δίπλα στον Τζόρτζ Κλούνι. Ανάμεσα στα πολλά βραβεία που έλαβε για τη συμμετοχή της στην ταινία, συμπεριλαμβάνονται τα Independent Spirit Award Β? Γυναικείου Ρόλου και National Board of Review Award Β? Γυναικείου Ρόλου, μαζί με μια υποψηφιότητα για Χρυσή Σφαίρα και βραβείο Critics Choice.
Πέρυσι η Γούντλι πρωταγωνίστησε στην ταινία «The Spectacular Now», δίπλα στον επίσης ταλαντούχο Μάιλς Τέλερ, σε μια ερμηνεία που απέσπασε το Ειδικό Βραβείο της Επιτροπής για Δραματική Ηθοποιία στο Φεστιβάλ του Σάντανς. Για την ίδια ερμηνεία η Γούντλι ήταν επίσης υποψήφια για το βραβείο Καλύτερης Γυναίκας Ηθοποιού στα Gotham Independent Spirit Awards. Η τελευταία της τεράστια κινηματογραφική επιτυχία ήρθε πριν από λίγους μήνες, με την ταινία «Η Τριλογία της Απόκλισης: Οι Διαφορετικοί», ενώ πρόκειται σύντομα να τη δούμε στην καινούρια ταινία του Γκρέγκ Αράκι, «White Bird in a Blizzard».
Η Σέιλιν Γούντλι ξεκίνησε την καριέρα της στην υποκριτική σε ηλικία πέντε ετών, οπότε και την ανακάλυψε τυχαία ένας ατζέντης, ο οποίος υπέγραψε κατευθείαν συμβόλαιο μαζί της. Έκτοτε δεν έχει σταματήσει να δουλεύει σε τηλεόραση , κινηματογράφο αλλά και διαφημίσεις. Προσπαθεί να περνάει όλο τον ελεύθερό της χρόνο κοντά στην εξοχή, αναζητώντας συνεχώς τρόπους για την προστασία και διατήρηση της ομορφιάς του φυσικού περιβάλλοντος.
Ο Άνσελ Έλγκορτ (Ογκάστους Γκας Ουότερς) έχει καταφέρει να συγκεντρώσει ένα φοβερά εντυπωσιακό δείγμα δουλειάς σε πολύ σύντομο χρονικό διάστημα. Προτού αποφοιτήσει από το LaGuardia Arts High School ο Άνσελ έχει συμπρωταγωνιστήσει με την Αλέξις Μπλέντελ στο θεατρικό ?Regrets?, το οποίο σκηνοθέτησε η Καρολίν Καντόρ για το Manhattan Theater Club. Οι αποθεωτικές κριτικές για το υποκριτικό του ταλέντο και τη σπάνια λάμψη του, τολμούσαν να τον συγκρίνουν ακόμη και με τον Τζέιμς Ντιν!
Στον κινηματογράφο, ο Άνσελ έχει ήδη πρωταγωνιστήσει δίπλα σε ονόματα όπως οι Κλόε Γκρέις Μόρετς και Τζούλιαν Μουρ στο Carrie αλλά και δίπλα στη Κέιτ Ουίνσλετ στην «Τριλογία της Απόκλισης: Οι Διαφορετικοί». Η μεγάλη αγάπη του για την υποκριτική προέκυψε μέσα από το πάθος του για τον χορό. Σε πολύ νεαρή ηλικία συμμετείχε στον «Καρυοθραύστη» και τη «Λίμνη των Κύκνων», στο Λίνκολν Σέντερ, με το Μπαλέτο της Πόλης της Νέας Υόρκης. Επίσης, ως τραγουδιστής έχει συνεργαστεί με διάφορους συνθέτες όπως οι Τζέισον Ρόμπερτ Μπράουν, Γκλεν Ρόβεν και Λούις Άντρισεν.
Η Λόρα Ντέρν (Φράνι) και ο Ουίλεμ Νταφό (Πίτερ Φαν Χόιτεν) δεν χρειάζονται ειδικές συστάσεις, καθώς τα πλούσια βιογραφικά τους εκτείνονται μέχρι τις αρχές της δεκαετίας του 80? και είναι γεμάτα σημαντικά βραβεία και επιτυχημένες καλλιτεχνικές δημιουργίες.
