εγαλώνοντας με τον πατέρα της και τη μικρότερη αδελφή της, η Σουζάν μένει έγκυος στην εφηβεία, μπλέκει σε μια ριψοκίνδυνη ερωτική περιπέτεια και προσπαθεί να βρει το δρόμο της στη ζωή μέσα από μια σειρά επώδυνων επιλογών.
Το ρεαλιστικό πορτρέτο μιας αυτοκαταστροφικής αντιηρωίδας και η συγκινητική ιστορία ενηλικίωσής της.
H Σουζάν και η μεγαλύτερη αδερφή της Μαρία ζουν μαζί με τον χήρο πατέρα τους Νικολά. Τα δύο κορίτσια είναι πολύ δεμένα μεταξύ τους, παρά τους διαφορετικούς χαρακτήρες τους: η χαμηλών τόνων Σουζάν απολαμβάνει την παρέα και την αγάπη της δυναμικής, ανεξάρτητης Μαρίας.
Τις γνωρίζουμε σαν μαθήτριες του δημοτικού, ενώ σύντομα βλέπουμε την έφηβη Σουζάν να ανακοινώνει ότι είναι έγκυος. Αμέσως μεταφερόμαστε πέντε χρόνια μετά και ο γιος της Τσάρλι, είναι ήδη μέλος της οικογένειας, ενώ ο πατέρας του είναι απών και δεν αναφέρεται ποτέ. Την περίοδο εκείνη, η Σουζάν εργάζεται στην ίδια μεταφορική εταιρεία, στην οποία είναι υπάλληλος ο πατέρας της. Η ζωή τους περιπλέκεται όταν εκείνη γνωρίζει τον Ζουλιέν, έναν γοητευτικό μικροκακοποιό, με τον οποίο ερωτεύονται αμέσως. Όταν ο Ζουλιέν θα χρειαστεί να φύγει από την χώρα, η Σουζάν θα πρέπει να πάρει τη δύσκολη απόφαση να επιλέξει ανάμεσα σε αυτόν και την οικογένειά της...
Η Κατέλ Κιγιεβερέ, η οποία είχε βραβευτεί με Prix Jean Vigo για το σκηνοθετικό ντεμπούτο Love Like Poison επιστρέφει με τη δεύτερη μεγάλου μήκους ταινία της Suzanne. Μια ταινία για την οικογενειακή "φωλιά" και την επώδυνη ενηλικίωση, τη δύναμη του τυχαίου, την αγάπη και όλες εκείνες τις επιλογές που καθορίζουν τη ζωή μας για πάντα.
Η Suzanne έκανε πρεμιέρα στο 66ο Διεθνές Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου των Κανών αποτελώντας την ταινία έναρξης της "Εβδομάδας Κριτικής".
Η δημιουργία αυτή της Katell Quillevere, μια από τις πρώτες απόπειρες της να ξανοιχτεί στα επικίνδυνα νερά των ταινιών μυθοπλασίας μεγάλου μήκους μας δίνει ένα πραγματικό διαμάντι ευρωπαϊκού κινηματογράφου αξιώσεων.
Υπενθυμίζουμε ότι η «Suzanne» ήταν μια από τις ταινίες που εντυπωσίασαν στο 54ο Φεστιβάλ Κινηματογράφου Θεσσαλονίκης και δικαίως βραβεύτηκε τόσο η παραγωγή όσο και η ερμηνεία της πρωταγωνίστριας αλλά και ο Francois Damiens με το βραβείο Καλλιτεχνικής Επίτευξης.
Με ένα σενάριο ? δημιουργία της Katell Quillevere, και της Mariette Desert, στιβαρό και γεμάτο ουσιαστικά νοήματα αλλά και προβληματισμούς πάνω στις δομές των συγχρόνων οικογενειών που επιβιώνουν διαλυμένες στις παρυφές της οργανωμένης εύπορης δυτικής καταναλωτικής κοινωνίας, η ταινία προβάλει την σχέση και τις διαδρομές των μελών μιας τυπικής οικογενείας αυτού του είδους.
Με στιβαρή, περιεκτική αλλά και εξαιρετικά λιτή αφήγηση η ταινία λειτουργεί με μια συνειδητά αποσπασματική σχέση αναφορικά με τον χρονικό παράγοντα, ενώ οι υπέροχες ερμηνείες των πρωταγωνιστών και κυρίως της Sara Forestier στον ρόλο της Suzanne κατορθώνουν να αποδώσουν με την ουσιαστική σκηνοθετική καθοδήγηση της Quillevere, ιδανικά τους τόσο σύνθετους χαρακτήρες του σιωπηλού αυτού δράματος.
Μια ταινία που αξίζει κανείς να την παρακολουθήσει καθώς εκτός από την αισθητική απόλαυση του καλού ευρωπαϊκού κινηματογράφου, θα αποτελέσει και αιτία για στοχασμό.
