Associations’ background

Thrakiki Estia of the prefecture Serres was founded in 1922. It is a non-profiteering association, one of the oldest in the region of Serres and in whole Greece.

Its goal is the preservation and spread of the Thracian tradition and history, the collection of relics, the learning of traditional dances and musical instruments. Its symbol is the two-headed eagle of the Byzantium and ο St. Nektarios is its patron.

The association is directed by a 9member board, which tenure of office is two years. It organizes and takes part in many cultural festivals (concerning dance – choir – speeches about tradition, culture, health, exhibitions of relics and pictures), as well as in every international conference of the Thracians.

Our association is one of the founding members of the Panhellenic Federation of the Thracian Associations (P.F.T.A.), it takes part in its Board of Directors, is also a member of the Panhellenic Federation of the Refugee Associations (P.F.R.A.) and a member of the Greek National division of C.I.O.F.F. and I.O.V In operational relations with UNESCO.

Nowadays our association has 600 families written as members, 17 dance groups of different ages (about 350 dancers), choir, group of learning of traditional musical instruments, lending library, exhibitions of relics and a very rich gardarobe with traditional authentic dresses.

Dance groups

In our association there are 17 dance groups, children, teenage and adult ones. The total number of dancers is about 350 people of different ages.

We serve two basic elements of children development: motion and rhythm, through the preservation of the greek and thracian tradition. We believe that our children should love dance, melody, tradition and at the same time feel their greek identity.

In the children dance groups teacher in Ms Anatolaki Matenia and in the teenage and adult groups Prof. Mr. Omiriadis Alexandros and Mr. Tsirogiannis Dimitrios. Our dance groups have taken part in many festivals not only in Serres but also in the wider region and in the rest of Greece. Our Association has also participated in the International Greek festivals C.I.O.F.F of Lefkada, Olymp, Ioannina, Nea Kaevali,Naousa, in the Symposium IOV HELLAS of Tyrnavos, Chania/Krete and Korinthos. It took part in the biggest festival of C.I.O.F.F in Strazniche of Czech Republic,as well as in the International dance festivals of Italy (3 times), Sardinia, France (2 times) in the national festival of Gannat (c.i.o.f.f), in Serbia, Bulgaria, Rumania,Belgium,Holland, Fwrmany, Cyprus, Slovakia,Switzerland, Hungary, Austria, and in Portugal.

Choir

-Our adult chor was founded in October 1999. The total number of members is about 50 people. It has appearted many times in the region of Serres and many choir festivals in the rest of Greece.

-Our children and teenage choir was founded in April 2002 and made its first appearance in Aachen/Germany, where it received many good write-ups. It has appeared in the region of Serres and other places of Greece. Teacher and director of the choirs is the teacher of music Ms Stela Vlachopoulou.
