A study on the effect of an ATM switch overload to the ATM SPVCs reconnection time (single author)

Abstract:In this study we present a problem that can occur in an ATM network operating under a severe overload situation. Specifically, we investigate the possible long reestablishment time for un-established Soft PVCs connections when an overload situation exists and the knock on effect that this may have in meeting certain quality of service criteria. As overload we define the event where the number of users accessing a switch is greater than the switch's engineered capacity. This study begins with the proposal of a model with respect to the behavior of the ATM switch under an overload situation. We compare this model with the switch model following an ideal behavior where no throughput degradation happens regardless the load offered to the switch. Then we consider three sample ATM network topologies working under the P-NNI routing protocol and we examine the impact of an overload on the rejected users reconnection time.

ERP based Business Process Reengineering in a Human Resources Department : A case study approach (with Theodora Chatzikallia)

Abstract
: Modern organizations are constantly facing new challenges regarding the reengineering of their business departments and processes. By the term Business Process we mean the profile of specific methods that can be employed to perform specific business tasks. In general, each Business Process is uniquely tailored to the organization it applies. Therefore, the resolution of a Business Process related problem is typically carried out with custom methods developed within organizations. In this paper we propose the use of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) as the basis for reengineering a business department and effectively the Business Process that it carries through. We discuss the application of ERP in the reengineering of the Business Process of a real world organization department (a Human Resources Department), which lead to a significant productivity enhancement.

ERP SYSTEMS DEPLOYMENT PROBLEMS IN THE REAL WORLD: FROM BLUEPRINTS TO GO LIVE (single author)

Abstract: Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems are among the most important Information Technology (IT) development efforts to accommodate the operation of an organization into a single IT platform. Before the advent of ERP technology, a number of proprietary systems were employed in order to cover the IT needs of a corporation. This kind of IT architecture introduces problems in company's interdepartmental cooperation, something that seriously affects the quality of the business products offered to customers. ERP systems appeared as the promising solution. In this study, we present our experiences in the deployment of an ERP system in a real world corporation department (a Human Resources department), and the relevant problems appeared all the way from the Blueprints Implementation to the Go Live stage

Get Rid of the Numbers: Using JavaFX as an Algorithm Instruction Tool (with Georgios Kouimtzis)

Abstract:The educational process nowadays introduces a set of challenges. The high school students' general inability to adhere to the material presented during the class hours as well as the low scores achieved in the set of exams introduced by the state, pose significant educational problems. Adopting modern ICT technologies that will allow students to become a part of the educational activity is compulsory. In this study we present the use of JavaFX as a means of achieving a twofold cause: Firstly the ability to stimulate the attention of students and secondly to achieve a greater understanding of advanced computer science subjects such as the bubble sort algorithm.
