Migrant Crisis

The diary of a young migrant

Monday 11th November 2018
My dear diary,
I am at home right now, which is an airport in Elliniko after a long day. Today was a rough day but at the end of it, everything turned out as expected. Yesterday at school some kids made fun of me because I am a refugee. I felt terribly to be honest. I felt like I didn’t belong there. I was about to cry when I heard some kids trying to defend me against the kids that made fun of me. They really stood beside me and tried to cheer me up. I felt relieved knowing that someone had my back. We all became
friends and from that day on we spend quite a few time together.
Well, I am afraid I’ll stop now. I am going to play football with my
classmates in a bit.
Yours,
Abdullah Abarak

My dear diary,
10 days have passed and I am happy that I still have my friends
beside me. School is fine; it’s kind of difficult for me to understand completely the Greek language but I will study more because when I grow up I want to become a doctor, so I can make my family proud.
Anyways, I need to study now. I’ll write back tomorrow again.
Yours,
Abdullah Abarak

Friday 23rd December 2018
My dear diary,
Today schools broke off for Christmas. Christmas is celebrated
around the world. I must say, Christmas is a beautiful celebration. Also, I love the Christmas snacks. Yesterday I tried for the first time melomakarona, they were really tasty. As a Muslim, I don’t celebrate Christmas but I respect those who do.
I’ll leave now. I’m going to eat some more melomakarona. Life is
going well!
Yours,
Abdullah Abarak
