"The swallow is a refugee or an immigrant?"
Final product of the project: "The swallow is a refugee or immigrant?" On the occasion that UNHCR this year in hotels in mountainous communities in Grevena hosted about 600 Syrian refugees who were mostly young children, the sixth class of the 2nd Primary School of Grevena with the teacher Argyris Karaliolios for the school year 2016-2017 carried out an eTwinning project entitled "The swallow Is a refugee or an immigrant? https://twinspace.etwinning.net/24900/home http://2dim-greven.gre.sch.gr/The%20swallow%20is%20a%20refugee%20or%20an%20immigrant.htm https://www.facebook.com/groups/1291704584185673/ Group on facebook The project involved 13 schools from Europe, one from Africa and one from Asia (175 Members: 15 Teachers, 158 Pupil(s), 2 Visitors). In this context we created event at etwinning on: "Winter clothing, school supplies and toys for young refugees in Grevena" (Winter clothes, school supplies and toys for young refugees in Grevena). The response was very great, as we managed and gathered too many clothes, school supplies, toys and medicines for the little refugees of Grevena. The pupils' parents, other residents of Grevena, schools from Grevena, Crete, Athens, Spain, Romania, and Italy responded to our call. All these kinds of gathered, we surrendered on November 24 to the President of the Teachers Association, Mr. Kostas Palaskas, who in turn handed them over to the refugees. We conducted a contest for the project logo among the partner schools so that the best painting by all schools would become the program logo. On the occasion of unity in the language lesson "Life in other places", the students sought their roots in their family environment. Their work presented them to the classroom and so we were surprised to find that many of their students and ancestors were refugees from Asia Minor or immigrants. Students' group work was carried out on migratory birds in Greece. We held instructive visit to KPE Pramanton where we visited the CCI report for 1900 Epirus immigrants on "From the Infinite country Great Continent", while the next day the students wrote thinking and writing on "Immigration in 1900 and today" : Https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQrHPDbIx0g We sent Christmas cards to the project partners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61XTj5NHQbw We sent five refugees for hospitality at the Asgata Lemesos primary school. These are paintings created by the five groups of class students. While after a few days the primary school of Asgata Lemesos Cyprus sent us six refugees (paintings) that we hosted at our school and in our homes. We created a collaborative tale with the first elementary school of Grevena (we wrote it and they did the illustration and the translation in English and vice versa) and a co-operative story with the 2nd Primary School of Athens (we wrote the end of the story). Our class visited Stella and Chrysa from the Vikos - Aoos and Pindos National Parks Administration and they organized the event "Swallows". At the event, the students were informed about the Vikos Aoos and Pindos National Parks, the species of swallows that occur in our country, the difficulties they face during their great migratory journey, the process by which they construct their nest and help That people can offer them. In the end, all the students built nests of clay swallows, which can be placed with the help of their teachers and their parents at school or at home. Throughout the program, there were many live teleconferences with partner schools where the students met each other and exchanged information about their work and place, watched films with related content (life is fine, striped pajamas, etc.) Related UN videos, we've been singing songs with similar content and more ... Twinspace of the project uploaded 857 photos, 65 videos and 35 other files (.doc, .pdf, .pptx). We created an online questionnaire to evaluate and better integrate the objectives of the program that students completed. We presented our work at the 2nd Students' Congress in Grevena with the collaborative tale "The Girl with the Swallow:" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkXEC615-TA Finally, in a live teleconference with 8 schools the students did the project evaluation and exchanged wishes for the summer holidays. Know better the reasons why people migrate or become refugees and the differences that exist between refugees and immigrants. 3. Observe and compare the behavior of animals and humans on the phenomena of refugee and immigration. 4. We have created feelings of friendship for refugees and immigrants 5. We learned better foreign languages and new technologies, and we also learned from other countries' cultures. 6. We have found that the swallow is an immigrant, because in the world of animals there are never wars. In closing we would like to thank: 1. All students and teachers from partner schools. 2.
