Leg01 Campsirago (Lc) Lombardia 20/6-3/7 TEEN/ENVI 10
Project: S. Genesio Park is on a hilly and mountainous area placed in the Southern part of Lecco province. The hills contain interesting ancient rural villages, a lot of which are depopulated. One of these is the medieval village of Campsirago, where Legambiente has a Permanent Centre for Voluntary Service and Environmental Education. During the camp the work will be the maintenance of mule tracks of the Brianza Mountain and cleaning the rivers that cross the areas of the local districts. Some volunteers will be involved in activities in order to realize a cultural map site.

Leg03 Brescia (Bs) Lombardia 27/6-10/7 ENVI 12
Project: Brescia is a big city with 200,000 inhabitants, with very important historical and artistic sites, from the Roman age up to the XX century, like the Roman Forum, the Medieval and Renaissance churches and cloisters, Vittoria's square which is an example of fascist architecture, and the important Palaeo-Christian church of S. Salvatore into the S.Giulia's convent. During the camp period there are some interesting summer festivals, including a unique international festival of contemporary circus. This town is very close to the lakes and during the summer there are a lot of performances, so it's also a touristic area. The workcamp will take place in the "Hills of Brescia Park", a local park where volunteers will restore and maintain the paths. They will be lodged in a restructured refuge inside the park, a fresh and green area at the same time close to the town.

Leg05 Cinisello Balsamo(Mi) Lombardia 27/6-11/7 ENVI 12
Project: Grugnotorto's park looks like an agricultural area surrounded by wide urban suburbs, very much populated and very close to Milan. The park is the natural connection between the nearby Regional Parks Nord Milano, Groane and Valle del Lambro, making possible the movements of fauna and the diffusion of flora. There are both agricultural areas and interesting wet plains where it's possible to find wild orchids. Here live several species of birds, little mammiferous and some species of amphibians. In this park, Legambiente manages two big areas where there are works of tree plantation. During the camp, volunteers will take care of the park area: setting wood-panels, cleaning up the underwood and taking care of the small-planted trees

Project: the workcamp is located in the "Matiniti Inferiore" ex-munitions storage that, together with other 24 buildings, was used as an anti-aircraft base during the 2nd World War. The fortress is only 2 km far from the sea and is situated just in front of the Messina Strait. The closeness to both sea and mountain creates a unique combination of colours and smells, and a definitely suggestive landscape. In fact you can easily get from the beaches, crossing the hills, to the woods. The camp aims at restoring and to revaluating a part of the building in order to enable it to host environmental didactic activities for local schools. Volunteers will clean up the area and take off the spoilt items (doors, windows, etc.). Due to the summer high temperatures, they will work very early in the morning.

Project: workcamp is a part of a project aiming at restoring several caves in different municipalities of Taburno-Campobasso Park. In 2001 and 2003 two international camps made Taburno's cave open to tourist and pupils. The final goal is to find out all the caves hidden by the vegetation and realize trekking routes. In 2002, Legambiente local group has showed the actual path to 800 students and pupils. This year volunteers' work will be concentrated on the reopening of a path connecting three different paths restored in the past with Vallenera cave

Project: the park is situated in the heart of Brianza around the town of Seregno, which is close to Milan and approximately 30km from Como Lake and some interesting mountains. It consists of agricultural land surrounded by natural hedges of Robinia and Elderflower which contribute to the preservation of valuable local flora and fauna. These areas are important for its strategic relevance because they represent and specific natural characteristics and preserve them. Volunteers will clean some areas of the local park and they will maintain some young trees that have been planted in the past by other volunteers. It will also be possible to attend the public swimming pool.

Leg16 Bienno (Bs) Lombardia 10/7-24/7 ENVI 15
Project: Bienno is a small medieval village, located in Valcamonica, the northern area of Brescia Province. It's on the slopes of Alps at 500mt above sea level. This village is well known for the old tradition of iron manufacture and also for the characteristic "borgo" (www.comune.bienno.bs.it). Adamello Park is located in the centre of alpine chain called Retiche Alps, the Adamello group, with the largest Italian glacier, belongs to the Park, it is bound in its north-eastern part to Brescia Province and it's almost 51.000 hectares large. The camp is based in the mountains at 1500mt, inside the protected area called Campolungo, approximately 1,30h from Bienno. This area is very interesting for its environmental richness and because contains visible traces of the Roman copper and iron manufacturing industry. The work will include the cleaning of the underbrush, restoration of grazing areas and the maintenance of paths. During the workings day participants will be hosted in a refugee, the final part of the workcamp they will move to Bienno's families. Near to the refuge there is a freshwater stream where it is possible to take a bath (only for the bravest vols!)

Leg18 Madone (Bg) Lombardia 10/7-24/7 ENVI 12
Project: Madone and Filago are little villages 10 kilometres away from Bergamo, that is the main town of the district and it is easily reachable by bus. The villages are characterised by a centre of rural houses made of stones taken from the nearby Brembo river. Local inhabitants still practice a very traditional sport similar to tennis: for each team there are 5 people and the name of the game is "Palla Tamburello". The work project will be developed in three different local municipalities belonging to the same park. We will work 3 or 4 days in each locality cleaning up and doing ordinary maintenance activities like: cutting grass and building benches and tables. The path along the river Brembo will be cleaned, we will set signposts and fences

Leg39 Cuirone Vergiate (Va) Lombardia 25/7-7/8 ENVI 15

Project: the camp takes place in "Monte S.Giacomo Reserve", in the Natural Park of Ticino River, managed by Legambiente local group. This is a place of remarkable importance not only for its nature but also historically for the presence, under the ruins of a "eighteenth-century Crotto", of remains going back to the Middle Ages; it was a holy place for the Celti: a Nemeton (Holy Wood). Volunteers will continue the environmental recovery of the sources of the Donda stream, began last year and stopped by a very strong storm. They will also help in the maintenance of paths and in the cleaning from rubbish and from weeds. As in the previous camps, volunteers will be lodged in the houses of Cuirone families.

Leg58 Barzanς (Lc) Lombardia 22/8-4/9 ENVI 12
Project: Valletta Park is an agricultural and wooded area, situated on the way from Bergamo to Como. It is extremely important for the nearby area of Lecco called "Brianza Lecchese", that is heavily populated. The main local administrations (Barzago, Barzanς, Bulciago, Cassago Brianza, Cremella and Monticello Brianza) decided the definitive institution of the Park. All the area is covered by a 16 kilometres long cycle-pedestrian route, which allows visitors to appreciate the interesting peculiarities of nature and landscape, that make Valletta a protected area. Main activity of the camp will be the maintenance of paths and some areas into the Park.

Leg59 Milano (Mi) Lombardia 22/8-5/9 ENVI 12
Project: the workcamp is organised by Legambiente in collaboration with another Italian environmental association called Italia Nostra. The project is addressed to those volunteers who want to know more about urban parks in Milan, situated inside the city but in natural and agricultural contexts. Parco delle Cave (Caves' Park) has the characteristics of being guided directly from an association, in collaboration with the public administration and the participation of local citizens. Volunteers will work together to local people in the maintenance of a naturalistic footpath, creating a special emplacement for bird-watching and building special "floating islands" for birds.

Leg60 Santo Stefano di Sessanio (Aq) Abruzzo 22/8-5/9 ENVI 10
Project: S. Stefano di Sessanio, situated 30km far from L'Aquila, is a small Medieval village, one of the most suggestive and beautiful of the area for its environmental aspects. It's famous for the growing of lentil, which can be tasted also nowadays, especially during a special Festival which takes place in the last week of September. The village is the start-point of wonderful excursions into the National Park of Gran Sasso and Monti della Lega. Volunteers will be involved in the maintenance of an ancient path which leads to Campo Imperatore (an important tourist resort) and crosses the camps cultivated with lentil. The workcamp is organized during the "Sagra delle lenticchie" and the volunteers will be involved also in the organization of the event.

Leg61 Bosio (Al) Alessandria 23/8-4/9 ENVI 12
Project: workcamp will take place next to the Benedicta Sanctuary surrounded by the nature of the Capanne Marcarolo Regional Park. Work consists in the maintenance of the paths around the structure where volunteers will be hosted. Volunteers will act in this contest to improve the park and will have the chance to discover the natural surroundings and the social realities, and will give the opportunity to live a full immersion in the nature even because the accomodation has no electricity, no potable water (there is a potable spring 2km away), mobile phones don't work. The camp is suggested to volunteers who really love contact with nature. The area of the Park is dominated by the massive pyramid of Tobbio Mont, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view of the Ligurian Gulf, situated at less than 10 km. The area is particularly interesting for the abundance of watercourses and of wetlands.

Project: Fontanili's Park is a green area characterised by the presence of "Fontanili" (a kind of water spring). It's surrounded by wide urban suburbs, outskirts and farming areas not far from Milan, which has a very high population density. Rho has interesting monuments to visit like Viscontea Tower Palace, Villa Scheilbler Gallarati Scotti and an ancient Sanctuary. Thanks to an agreement with the municipal administration, Legambiente has the management of this Park, where many trees have been planted. During the workcamp volunteers will take care of the park

Project: Casei Gerola is a village in the province of Pavia (in Lombardy), South of the River Po. From here it's easy to reach all the main cities in the North West of Italy. Its main natural attraction is "Le Folaghe" Park where volunteers will work building infrastructures for its fauna (like nesting boxes etc..), creating a path (steps, hand rails etc..) and keeping the area clean while observing fauna and flora. They will be also involved in recreational activities inside the Park like bird-watching and evening events (concerts, slide shows, films etc..) at local venues.

Leg64 Galbiate (Lc) Lombardia 29/8-11/9 ENVI 12
Project: Monte Barro (986 m above sea level) is a solitary mountain in the hilly area between the region called Brianza and Lecco, very close to Como Lake. Very particular is the view that volunteers can admire from their accommodation almost on top of the mountain; it is possible to admire a very large landscape with the Pre-Alpine mountains and Brianza lakes, the city of Lecco, the Grigne massif and Corni di Canzo massif. There are also interesting geological peculiarities and several precious flora and fauna species. In the Park of Monte Barro it is possible to take a nice walk along different pathways, to visit an archaeological area and a bird-watching station. Volunteers will work in the environmental maintenance of the area nearby the accommodation building, cleaning and removing branches from the dry meadows of the park, and working on paths.

Leg65 Piancastagnaio (Si) Tuscany 1/9-15/9 ENVI 15
Project: Piancastagnaio is situated near the Amiata Mountain, a volcanic relief covered by chestnut wood and pretty villages. Cultivation of chestnut was, for ages, the base of economical and social life in the area. Last year volunteers restored an ancient drying-room where chestnuts were dried; this year volunteers will restore the suggestive and interesting path that from Piancastagnaio leads to San Salvatore Abbey. Volunteers will create informative wood-boards about the local traditions, clean a fruit-land and classify several fruits. Volunteers will be hosted in a public building into the Regional Reserve of Pigelleto where it's possible to admire 25 kinds of trees and 28 kinds shrubs. Not far from Pincastagnaio, there are many tourist wonderful places as Montepulciano, Montalcino, Pienza, Pitigliano, Saturnia

Leg66 Riomaggiore (Sp) Liguria 1/9-13/9 ENVI 12
Project: Cinque Terre (Five Lands) is a group of five villages between the sea and the mountains formed by spectacular terraces above the sea, made by kilometres of small dry stone-walls and cultivated with olive-trees and vine-trees. The terraces are created from the sea level till 700 metres high, and in the last years have suffered an important neglect by local people. Since four years Legambiente is collaborating with the Park administration organising volunteer projects for the safeguard of the area. The National Park of Cinque Terre has environmental and cultural characteristic to be re-valued and preserved, and for this reason is included in the list of Unesco environmental and culture patrimonies. Volunteers will be involved in activities for the cleaning and maintenance of paths and terraces

Project: Boltiere is an historical village near the river Brembo, one of the most important rivers in the Bergamo district. It is located 15 kilometres away from Bergamo, the main city of the district. The village is situated inside the natural area Local Park of Brembo. Volunteers will collaborate in the organisation, management and running of a "second-hand market" and in different works aimed to raise awareness of the local people in order to avoid waste and promote reutilization.

Leg68 Marcaria (Lc) Lombardia 26/9-9/10 ENVI 15
Project: the area of Oglio Sud Park follows the homonymous river Oglio crossing Cremona and Mantova districts, sometimes only few hundred metres large, sometimes over three kilometres large. The river crosses in this stretch the agricultural plain, between big embankments. The landscape is strongly influenced by the human presence, with regular cultivated fields, interrupted by the rows of trees along the canals of the irriguous system. There are interesting wet areas, rich in natural vegetation and aquatic fauna; some of them are already protected areas, such as "Le Bine" between Acquanegra sul Chiese and Calvatone districts, and "Marcaria Peat Bogs" in the homonymous district. Volunteers will help in the maintenance and revision of the wet area paths, to facilitate the use and the participation of visitors for the environmental education.

Leg69 Torri Superiore (Im) Liguria 1/12-15/12 RENO/ENVI 15
Project: Torri Superiore is a small medieval village dated at the XII century and situated in Val Bevera, a small valley characterised by the cultivation of olives trees and mimosa plants, located close to the coast and to the border with France. Since 1989 the Cultural Association "Torri Superiore" has been developing a project to restore the wonderful Medieval village to transform it in an ecological, co-operative village and a centre of cultural research. The Association started to organise workcamps with Legambiente in the 1992 and all the 19 groups of volunteers have been involved in the maintenance of the old houses, and the abandoned building that now are used again. From 1997 13 restructured houses have been used and a big part of the cultural centre. The place will be used for cultural activities as courses of biological agriculture, ceramics, shiatsu..., and also it will be open for trekking excursions. Torri Superiore is member of GEN-Europe (Global eco-village network) and RIVE (Italian eco-village network). In this camp volunteers will help in the restoration of a path in a close village called Trucco and in the maintenance of the fountain "Balestra" (famous for the quantity and quality of its water) and the water canals used for the farmers. Besides volunteers will help in some reconstruction works of stone walls that have been destroyed by wild boars during the winter. NOTE: The work can be very involving and hard

Leg-Family Bacchereto (Po) 19/08- 29/08 ENVI+Family
Participants: 8 adults + 8 children (7 to 9 years old) - half of the group will be Italian
Extra fee: 75 euros per person (adults or child)
Project: Legambiente promotes for the second year camps where parents and children can participate together. This one will be the first international. The idea is to create a sort of temporary community where adults and children can share the idea of voluntary activity for protecting the nature. The camp take place in Bacchereto, a small village located in a wonderful hill area close to the most important artistic cities of Tuscany, like Florence, Siena, Volterra. The schedule of the camp is for the adults like any other voluntary camp: 4-5 hours a day for environmental actions. In the meanwhile, children spend their time together with 2 young social workers, skilled in playschemes for children. They run games or paint realising at the same time educational activities. When possible, during the camp parents and children work together, doing voluntary action for environment: of course children do what they can!
Parents can join the camp in pair or alone with their child/children. Children should be between 7 - 9 years old in order to create an homogeneous group.
Work: restore the path connecting the 2 villages of Bacchereto and Vinci; volunteers will also set new signs about the typical flora and fauna on the same path and they will create picnic areas in the most remarkable locations.
