Oscars 2026: “Sinners” Leads with Record 16 Nominations
The 98th Academy Awards, taking place on March 15, 2026, are poised to mark a historic moment as “Sinners” leads the Oscars 2026 nominees with 16 nominations, setting a new record for the most nods ever received by a single film.
The musical horror, directed by Ryan Coogler, surpassed the previous benchmark of 14 nominations held jointly by “All About Eve,” “Titanic” and “La La Land.” It earned recognition in key categories including best picture, directing and original screenplay, along with acting nominations for Michael B. Jordan, Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo.
Following closely, Paul Thomas Anderson’s political thriller “One Battle After Another” received 13 nominations, including best picture, directing and adapted screenplay. The film also brought acting nods for Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn.
The best picture lineup reflects a wide range of international and genre films. Yorgos Lanthimos’ alien comedy “Bugonia,” Chloé Zhao’s Shakespearean drama “Hamnet,” Joseph Kosinski’s motorsport story “F1” and Guillermo del Toro’s gothic tale “Frankenstein” are all in contention.
Other titles include Josh Safdie’s ping-pong drama “Marty Supreme,” Brazilian thriller “The Secret Agent,” Norwegian family saga “Sentimental Value” and Clint Bentley’s period piece “Train Dreams.”
Acting nominations for performers in “The Secret Agent” and “Sentimental Value” highlighted the global presence in this year’s field. “Frankenstein,” “Marty Supreme” and “Sentimental Value” each earned nine nominations.
