ISBN 960-04-1749-0

SUMMARY

In this work, which consists of five chapters, the phenomenon of magic is studied as it appears in the early Byzantine society, from every possible aspect: social, economical, religious, political, cultural, philosophical, technical, scientific, medical e.t.c.

At the same time an attempt is taking place in order to compare between this phenomenon -as it develops in the Byzantine society- and relative phenomena of the ancient East, ancient Greece, the Hellenistic and Roman era and the early Christian era.

Generally this work intends to cover the lack of a wide and thorough study in magic as a social phenomenon in the Early Byzantine Empire.
