Her name owes in the Myrina girl of king of Iolkos(Bolos)which was spouse of
Thoanta, first king of Limnos. The Thoas, son of god Dionyssos and Arjadnis,
was general of Cretans that occupied Limnos and was fixed by the king of Crete
Radamanthos to rule overthe island. He taught in their Limnians the culture
of vine.
It appears that the Kritheas seeking alliance with Cretes gave for spouse in
the Thoanta the girl of Myrina.
These
happened two roughly generations before theTrojan war, after the grandson of
Thontas Eyinios, son of girl of Ypsipili, reigned in Limnos, when the Achaean
attacked in the Troia.
Consequently the foundation and the name of Myrinas are reduced in the 12th
or 13th century B.C., season where in the island dominated the Minyes. Very
probably they built the first castle. In any case the strenghened rock,
that dominates her sure bight, was lived also older, from the neolithic season,
as it results from sculpurings that exists. However it should not existed big
settlement.
Parenthetical we mark that with the name Myrina existed city and in the Mysia
in M. Asia (the Byzantine Sevastoupolis).
The Myrina was fortified repeatedly by the populations that him lived occasionally
(Minyes, Pelasgoi, Athenians, Byzantines, Franks, Turks). Her current castle
was built in 1186 from Androniko A' Komninos on older ruins. It was repaired
years 1207-1214 from the Filokalos Navigajoso, in 1361 from Ioannis E' Palajologos,
in 1477 from their venetians and in the dues of 16 of century from their Turks.
Up to the IV century it maintained her ancient name, but is also reported as
Myrinoypolis by the Kritovoulos the JE' of century. In any case from 1276 prevailed
the name Paliokastro, in contradiction to the new castle of Kotsinos. With this
name it is reported up to the JZ' of century, in order to it is changed progressively
in the simpler Castle.
At the Byzantine years and middle ages the city had second place in the island
afterwards Volcano and slower the Kotsino. Capital place took again on Ottoman
domination and in particular afterwards venetian-turks war (1645-1662).
Already from 1586 means and near in the Castle remained the Turkish guard and
the Turkish families.. From them emanated also the place nameTurkish Seashore.
On the contrary the Greeks were assembled round the Metropolis, to the Romeikos
Seashore and their district were named Mporio or Barons.
The Mporo emanated from the Emporeian and today survives only in the expression
"the Mporjanoi'". |
