FURNITURE:
In the farmer's bedroom, there
were a bed, a shelf to keep their clothes and a basket. On the contrary in the
nobleman’s bedroom there were a cabinet for their clothes, his wife's cosmetic
box, and a lamp.
CLOTHES:
The farmers had coarse linen sheets while the nobles had fine linen
sheets. Clothing was the same but the nobles had clothes made from fine linen
and shoes made of leather while the farmer's clothes were made from coarse and
their shoes were made of reeds.
DAILY
CHORES:
In the
morning the farmer used to wash, shave and dress alone, but the nobleman used to
do all the above with the help of a servant. Both farmers and nobles had the
same breakfast consisting of bread and fruits. The main difference between
farmers and nobles was their work. The farmer worked in the fields which
belonged to the church so after collecting the harvest he had to give part of it
to the church as a pay while the nobles had their own land and an overseer to
take care of it. The nobleman spent his day by giving orders about the works in
his fields and asking for information from the overseer.
The
farmer's wife spent the day grinding wheat and baking bread. In the afternoon
she walked to the river with her children to collect water. In the evening, she
prepared a small dinner of bread, meat and beer for her family. The nobleman's
wife spent her day supervising the preparations for the banquet they were giving
in the evening. Then she went to the garden. In the evening the farmers put
their children to bed and slept. On the contrary the nobles returned to their
house and got ready for banquet.
