SJ01 Le Perthus LR 24/4-15/5 RENO 12
Work: The fort of Bellegarde is a military monument. It was built in the XVIIth. It is near to the Spanish border, not far away from Perpignan. This year the work will take place in the southeast corner of the fortifications. An important work of renovation will take place there because this part is really in a bad statement. Principally it will be hard stonework in the most beautiful place of the fort. Some specific activities will be organised with the school in order to facilitate the integration of the local youth in the project. There will be some possibilities to discover the views of the region such as mountains tours; a visit to a historical sites and the Cathars region as well.
Accommodation: In the fort.

SJ02 Traveling in PACA PACA 1/5-31/10 RENO 8
Work: Our local office in PACA manages 4 community centres where international workcamps and solidarity actions are being organised. It also works in partnership with local organisations and municipalities. This year the volunteers will work in different places such as the villages of Les Crots and Saix, a youth house and at the farm of Fai. The work will be essentially the renovation and improvement of the hosting places. Finishing off works will be carried on: posing of tiled walls, setting up of partition walls, painting, electricity, etc.. These works require more delicacy than force.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in common rooms where the workcamp takes place, but conditions can change depending on the projects in which volunteers are involved.
Location: Our local office is based in the Alps, in the area around Veynes en Devoluy.
Terminal: Veynes en Devoluy is the nearest train station.
Remarks: Volunteers can take part in the whole duration of the project or in shorter periods, but with a minimum of 1 month. They can start when they want to, depending on the open places. The group will work with international volunteers during the workcamps. The farm of Fai, is a very isolated place up in the mountains and volunteers must be ready for it. Volunteers must be aware that the isolation might be sometimes very hard to bear but it can be compensated by the magnificence of the natural environment (mountains, rivers, canyons, animals, etc). Although french language is not compulsory, volunteers must realise that it is an important tool to communicate.


SJ03 Vaunieres 1 PACA 3/5-31/10 RENO/ANIM 4
Project: At 1200 m of altitude, Vaunieres, small village up in the mountains is a place of exchanges and international meetings. Thousands of people, since 1963, helped to its restoration; des different workcamps are proposed throughout the summer. Ces topics can vary according to the population accomodated in the village and this will not limit to following work:
mai/juin: restoration of the shelters of camp-site out of wooden
juin/juillet: various constructions and installations in the village
september: installation of an aromatic garden and realization of walls of earthwork.
The volunteers will take part in the daily life of the village (fire pit gatherings, improvised musical evenings, etc...). To note that the team does not organize activities like a club of holidays, but the possibilities of discovering our area are numerous and the occasions to divert itself do not miss. The volunteers will also take part in the hosting of groups and families on the village and in the organization of the collective life (shopping, meals, animations, maintenance of collectifs spaces)avec the support of the team.
Accommodation: in a house in the village, room with four beds.
Location: Vaunieres is located 6 km from St Julien en Beauchene in the French Alps.

Remarks: Volunteers can take part in the whole project from May to October or for a shorter period but for a minimum period of one month. This project requires from the volunteers a good sense of initiative and they will be from time to time working with handicaped people.They are then entitled to start their voluntary service on any given Monday each month. Long term international volunteers will be added to this group. Foreseen good working whoes.


SJ04 Montendre PC 7/5-29/5 RENO 10
Work: The regional office of Solidarites Jeunesses in Poitou-Charentes, has renovated for 7 years a hosting centre in Montendre, a lively project where long and short term international volunteers live and participate to the hosting of various groups and organize artistic projects. The renovation of the center is practically completed and the last works are to be done to the outside of the building. The volunteers will renovate the front of the main building. Among the work to be done there is: unplastering and coating of the wall to the lime mortar.
Accommodation: In tents in the manor's garden or in a public building.
Location: Montendre is located 75 km north of Bordeaux.

SJ05 Vieure AUV 15/5-5/6 RENO/ENVI 10
Work: The intercommunal council of Centre Bocage wants to improve the area around a small lake in the village of Vieure and participates to the development of this region and to its outdoor activities. The volunteers of this spring's camp will work in the restoration of a bungalow made out of wood as well as in the installation of a vivarium and nesting boxes at the edge of a lake. The workcamp foresees the organisation of activities linked to the natural environment in which the population from this region can be integrated.

SJ06 Briennon RHONE ALPS 22/5-12/6 ENVI/ART 10
Project: The municipality of Briennon having concern for an embellishment of its commune and local animation, will host an international group of young volunteers. The workcamp will consist in the fleurissement of the commune, creation of flower beds and the planting of flowers around a roundabout... some work of painting is also envisaged.
Accommodation: In a public building.
Location: Briennon is located at 20 km north of Roanne, in central France.

SJ07 Croisee des Regards 1 PACA 7/6-27/6 ENVI 12
Project: Since 1993, Domaine de Mayne has been an international community centre devoted to meetings and creative work while being renovated at the same time. The organisation is involved in 3 areas: social work, environment and contemporary art. Domaine du Mayne itself is a 130 hectares wide estate and is covered by fields and Mediterranean flora. Volunteers will take part in the discovering and learning of ecological systems as well as energy consumption such as solar energy. Some discussions will be conducted about the eco-citizenship. The volunteers are invited to bring with them material about the them of the camp and how it is handled in their countries.

SJ08 Les Crots PACA 10/6-30/6 RENO 7
Work: For several years now, our organisation has been renovating a house in Les Crots, a small village where 600 inhabitants live. We receive groups of people eager to spend some time in a rural area. In partnership with organisations and local councils, we also organise international volunteer projects which are included in local development. This year, together with a local association, the volunteers will put the roughcast in the exterior walls of the house and will improve the sourroundings of the Montmirail chapel.
Accommodation: In the community centre, with all facilities at disposal.
Location: Les Crots is in the Alps, 30 km to the east of Gap.
Terminal: Embrun or Veynes are s the nearest stations - you have to travel through Grenoble.


SJ09 Istres PACA 12/6-3/7 RENO 12
Work: Istres's community will host for the first time one international workcamp to interact with the local society. The project will be articulated by the creation of one sustaining wall with dry stone masonry down the "Oppidum du Castellan" as well as discovering the region of Provence. In addition, the workcamp will give the possibility to participate in summer animations and meeting local people by gathering both the animators and the youngers of the town who are invited by the workcamp to take part into the project in a concrete way.

SJ10 Grand LOR 29/7-19/8 RENO/ART 15
Work: Une seconde cooperation avec l’association “Lorraine Creation 2000” en 2004 permettra la poursuite des travaux commences en 2003 sur la restauration d’un ancien lavoir dans l’enceinte de Grand. Les volontaires internationaux continueront le nettoyage de deux escaliers d'acces situes sur les cotes, ainsi que l'arriere et la restauration de l'interieur. Le bassin, qui servait au lavage, sera a rendre etanche. Enfin, la couverture du lavoir sera egalement a restaurer.
Parallelement les jeunes internationaux aideront a la coordination des differentes actions culturelles qui vont se mettre progressivement en place au sein du village de Grand et de l’amphitheatre en vue du spectacle fin Juin 2004. Ce qui comprendra aussi bien l’aide a la mise en place de sculptures temporaires, l’installation du materiel son-eclairage etc. Ensuite, le chantier serait implique dans la preparation et la regie du spectacle inaugural proprement ; tant sur le plan organisationnel que sur l’aspect artistique. La derniere semaine sera consacree au “demontage” de toute les infrastructures, ainsi qu’a la “post communication” faite autour de l’evenement.

SJ11 Vaunieres 2 PACA 13/6-4/7 RENO 10
Project: At 1200 m of altitude, Vaunieres, small village up in the mountains is a place of exchanges and international meetings. Thousands of people, since 1963, helped to its restoration. This year volunteers will take part in the restoration of the roof of a building degraded by the successive storms and winters as well as in various enhancing works of the site. The volunteers will take part in the daily life of the village (fire pit gatherings, improvised musical evenings, etc...). To note that the team does not organize activities like a club of holidays, but the possibilities of discovering our area are numerous and the occasions to divert itself do not miss. The volunteers will also take part in the organization of the collective life (shopping, meals, animations, maintenance of collectifs spaces)avec the support of the team.
Accommodation: In a house of the village adapted to wheel chairs.
Location: Vaunieres is located 6 km away from St Julien en Beauchene in the French Alps, 70 km away from Grenoble.
Terminal: Lus la Croix Haute (connecting train in Grenoble)
Remarks: Attention, this workcamp requires to work in height, (about 12 m in height), in spite of the safety measures, the giddiness, is not insurmountable, but could prove to be handicapping, envisage good shoes and a good sleeping bag because the nights in mountains are fresh even in summer.


SJ12 Baignes Sainte Radegonde PC 25/6-17/7 CONS 12
Work: For two years now the village of Baignes has hosted international work-camps. The involvement of young villagers and the exchanges with international volunteers have motivated the council to organise a project for the third time. Volunteers will take part in the creation of a play-ground on one of the squares of the village. They will build amusements in kits, e.g. roundabouts. Once completed, the site will be a central and lively public place where all generations can meet as it is surrounded by the camping of the village, the school, the swimming pool, the skate park, etc.
Accommodation: In a building belonging to the village.

SJ14 Montauger IDF 26/6-16/7 RENO/ENVI 10
Work: One of the regional institutions in the Essonne region has just acquired a vast estate which used to be an old fortified farm and wants to develop an environmental educational programme. This year, the workcamp will consist on the development of old agricultural machines exposed in an opened barn and particularly the realization of panels of information; in addition, the volunteers will enhance the work site, d'une maniere ecologique and will clean and repair an enclosing stoned-wall.
Accommodation: In a public building.
Location: Montauger is located in the department of Essonne, at the entrance of Mennecy.

SJ15 Mont les Neufchateau LOR 27/6-19/7 SPECIAL PROJECT 12
Work: In 2004 association "Lorraine Creation 2000" will organise an exhibition/spectacle "ENTER INTO THE MEMORY" inside the Bourlemont Fort. The project aims at exploring the period of the great world wars of last century through an interior, captivating and shocking scenography, putting forward the architectural characteristics of this site. This exchange has the particularity of allowing the participants to become "Ambassador of Peace", while being integrated fully in this impressive spectacle: as guides or actors or by accomodating the public in its ambulation, they would portray the faces and colors of people formerly burst and now interdependent of an united Europe. An artistic and pedagogical approach for all these young people would be put forward, who would be also consolidated by more practical workshops, with the the creation of decorations and other major elements of scenography, obviously always under the framing of professionals of recognized competences. At the end of this workcamp, a concert-spectacle wanting to be "Anthem with Peace" will be given outside the Fort. The participation of the volunteers will also be necessary and hey will play the same role as for the exhibition part. They added value they will contribute will have the same spirit as it took place 125 year ago during the construction of the Fort.

SJ17 Port d'Envaux PC 2/7-24/7 RENO 12
Work: The council of Port d'Envaux wants to organise an international work-camp for the exchanges and the cultural input provided by such a project. Volunteers will renovate the former train station (a small building): they will take the roughcast from the walls and will plaster them, following the advices of the retired masons from the village. The idea of the council is to turn the place into an exhibition centre where the history of the village will be shown – railways, river trade, stone mining, etc.

SJ18 Saint Georges Longuepierre PC 2/7-24/7 RENO 12
Work: The council of Saint Georges Longuepierre wants to organise an international work-camp for the exchanges and the cultural input at local level provided by such a project. Volunteers will be involved in the renovation of the wash-house. Thus the international work-camp will be the opportunity to organise different events such as a village dinner, a hike between the different wash-houses with a cultural background of local legends and fairy tales. Volunteers will mainly be involved in carpentry work to renovate the roof of the whole wash-house. They will also improve its surrounding open spaces.
Accommodation: In a building belonging to the village.
Location: In western France, not far from St Jean d'Angely.

Remarks: Volunteers will ride bicycles everyday as the accommodation is 2 km from the working site.


SJ19 Saint Sulpice d'Arnoult PC 2/7-24/7 RENO 12
Work: The village of Saint Sulpice d'Arnoult is much motivated to host a group of international volunteers. The project is to renovate a small wash-house below the church and to improve its surroundings to make it an enjoyable place. Volunteers will take down the parts built in cement and re-point with quicklime the whole wash-house (which is made of cut stones), and they will clear and improve the space surrounding the wash-house. The organisation of young villagers should also take part in the project.
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in the centre of young villagers.
Location: In the centre of Charente Maritime (between Saintes and Rochefort), western France.

SJ20 Traveling in Bourbon 1 AUV 3/7-28/7 RENO/ENVI 12
Project: AUTRY-ISSARDS and SAINT PLAISIR.- The international volunteers will discover the land of Bourbon by working in five different villages. The idea of this project is to revive and enhance the local heritage following the pathways that encircles the region where the participant communities are located. The volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in different works such as the renovation of a chapel and a wash-house, the clearing out of a pedestrian pathway, among others. Thus volunteers will have the possibility to discover the Land of Bourbon not only through its natural and cultural heritage but also and through the contact with the local population.
Work: This is the first part of the project. In Autry-Issards the volunteers will renovate a small stoned-made wall situated in a pedestrian path and will enhance the surroundings of a small pond by seeting pick-nick tables. In Saint Plaisir they will work in the enhancement of the local heritage of the village.
Accommodation: In public buildings.
Location: The villages of the Land of Bourbon are in the centre of France, some 30 km from Moulins.
Terminal: Moulins sur Allier is the nearest train station.
Remarks: You are encouraged to register for the whole project in order to discover all the aspects of the Land of Bourbon. However, you can join only one of the two workcamps.


SJ21 Croisee des Regards 2 PACA 4/7-18/7 ENVI 12
Project: Since 1993, Domaine de Mayne has been an international community centre devoted to meetings and creative work while being renovated at the same time. The organisation is involved in 3 areas: social work, environment and contemporary art. Domaine du Mayne itself is a 130 hectares wide estate and is covered by fields and Mediterranean flora. Volunteers will take part in the enhancing and improvement of a path leading to the centre as well as in the improvement of the fire protection ditches. This path will be 1.4 km long and 4 m wide and it will serve as a second access road to the centre. It will also allow the fire fighters to cir(culate easily towards the mais roads of the area. Some physical works are foreseen and a full participation in the daily life and in the organisation of the camp are expected from the volunteers.

Project: At 1200 m of altitude, Vaunieres, small village up in the mountains is a place of exchanges and international meetings. Thousands of people, since 1963, helped to its restoration. The volunteers will participate to the construction of a small house with ecological materials such as straw, hemp, wood and ground. They will realise several enhancement works in the workcamp site. They will also take part in the daily life of the village (fire pit gatherings, improvised musical evenings, etc...). To note that the team does not organize activities like a club of holidays, but the possibilities of discovering our area are numerous and the occasions to divert itself do not miss. The volunteers will also take part in the organization of the collective life (shopping, meals, animations, maintenance of collectifs spaces)avec the support of the team.

SJ23 Saint Pierre du Perray IDF 5/7-25/7 ENVI 15
Project: With the idea of developing and improving the Francois Mitterrand park, international workcamps have taken place in this site since 1997. This year, the workcamp will continue and will have as main goal the pruning, cutting and clearing of wooded areas as well as the renovation of a wall and the construction of information panels.
Accommodation: In a public building.
Location: Saint Pierre du Perray is located at 60 km south of Paris.

SJ24 Generac LR 5/7 26/7 RENO 12
Work: The restoration of the castle of Generac has started for three years with the turning down of the false walls and ceiling as well as removing the roughcasting in the walls of the first floor. During this work, a wooden floor will be taking down and renewed, some plaster will be fixed at the walls of the first floor and many other specific works. During this work, we have to follow the indication of an architect in order to respect the architectural specifications. Beside the work, there will be plenty of opportunities to discover the cultural and the tradition of this region including the traditional votive celebration

SJ25 Gresswiller and Fouday ALSACE 5/7-23/7 RENO 13
Work: The originality of this international workcamp is the partnership created between seveal partners. Among them are two associations, which respectively carry out their work in the same area (the valley of Schirmeck): ‘le Conservatoire des Sites Alsaciens - CSA’ (The Academy of Alsacien Sites) and ‘la Grange aux Sabots’ (The Hoof Barn). Most of the work will be to clear the undesirable scrub vegetation (trees and bushes) by strimming, chainsawing and digging. This will allow grass and wild flowers to gradually recolonise the sites. The volunteers of the CSA and the Barn of Hooves, which have already carried out work on the sites have been invited to meet you and they will participate in the works.

SJ26 Abbaye de Clausonne PACA 6/7-27/7 RENO 10
Work: Clausonne is an abbey that was built in the 12th century. Under the influence of men and time, only very little of the building remains but it is an important testimony of 800 years of history. In 2004 the charity called "Friends of the Claussone Abbey" wants to organise an international volunteers project together with the "Village des Jeunes" association. The work does not require a lot of techniques but it is important for the site. Volunteers will continue the work started last year: continuing the archaeological excavations, the sorting out and the classification of stones, and the enhancing of the site.
Accommodation: In tents, on the site around the abbey.
Location: The abbey is in the Alps, 15 km from Veynes and 30 from Gap.
Terminal: Veynes en Devoluy is the nearest train station.


SJ28 Traveling in Bocage Sud 1 AUV 10/7-29/7 RENO/ENVI 12
Project: SAINT HILAIRE and BESSON.- The group of international volunteers will engage in the discovering of the Land of Bocage Sud by working on the renovation and enhancement of the local architectural and natural heritage in four different villages in the medieval community of Souvigny where a specific project will take place each time. Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet the inhabitants who will follow the different steps of the project. Thus volunteers will have the possibility to discover the region of Souvigny not only through its natural and cultural heritage but also through the contact with the local population. Each step will be a new event, each project will be different... the paths will then be varied...
Work: This is the first part of the project. In Saint Hilaire the volunteers will participate to the renovation of a school by doing some painting, masonry and other minor works. In Besson the volunteers will enhance a pedestrian path and will take part in the decoration of chars for the traditional village parade.
Accommodation: In buildings or in tents, depending on the projects.
Location: The villages of Bocage Sud are in the centre of France, some 20 km from Moulins.

SJ29 Betaucourt FC 10/7-31/7 RENO 15
Work: The council of Betaucourt wants to protect its fountains, two of which are still irrigated. During a first work-camp in 2002 the paving of two wash-houses was renovated and the carpentry of one of them was improved. For the second project the council wants to work on another wash-house and renovate the opposite small square (called "14th July"). In the wash-house, the paving will be extended with old stones, mud will be taken out of the basin, the joints will be repaired and the water will be introduced again. On the square, various improvements will be done: volunteers will destroy an old bowling field, surround the square with a wooden fence, install tables and benches and place some pavestones around them. They will also move a well that does not work anymore and is badly located on the square and place some pavestones around its new location. Time permitting volunteers may also be involved some other renovation work. They will make cement, cut stones, and place them on the ground in a way that respects traditional methods. This will be the opportunity for volunteers to acquire masonry and stone-cutting skills.

SJ30 Giromagny FC 10/7-31/7 RENO 10
Work: Since the end of 2003 the council of Giromagny and the local community centre (called "La Haute Savoureuse") have been having a reflection on the promotion of the former mining sites of the area. A work-camp has been organised in order to renovate the entrance of the mine in Giromagny. The presence of international volunteers will also be a tool to raise the awareness of the local population for this part of the heritage. The work-camp will be an important input to organise activities around concepts such as the transmission of knowledge, the investment into the history of mining work and a better knowledge of the local heritage. Many activities have been foreseen to enable the memory work: parties, cultural evenings, invitations to work on the site, etc. Volunteers will be involved in the following tasks: they will clean the entrance of the mine (clean the dirt, take out the leaves and stones) and rebuild its wooden frame, as it originally was. They will also install a wooden staircase, a security fence, an explanatory board and a table.

SJ31 Lavoncourt FC 10/7-31/7 RENO 15
Work: Many projects concerning the renovation of fountains, including one last year, have been organised in the village. Last year volunteers started the renovation of the plinth on which stands a statue of Virgin Mary at the end of the village. It will be completed this year. As the work requires specific techniques, it will be started and achieved together with a local company. Volunteers will make cement, cut stones, and place them in the wall in a way that respects traditional methods. This will be the opportunity for volunteers to acquire masonry and stone-cutting skills. Besides this work volunteers will also enhance a small square (implementation of benches, etc.). Leisure and cultural activities will also be organised.

SJ32 Maizieres FC 6/7-23/7 ENVI/SOC 12
Work: The Medical Institute for Education and Vocational Training in Maizieres hosts children and teenagers, both boys and girls aged 6 to 20 and being slightly mentally disadvantaged. The educational process for every youth aims at supporting their personal growth and their inclusion into social and professional life. This is done in close cooperation with the family and the agreement of the youth. The Institute is located in the countryside. The site is bordered by a brook which shores are eroding. This will be the focus of the project; more precisely volunteers will work on a wooden frame that will strengthen the shores in a natural and sustainable way. Through the concrete work for the Institute and the daily activities (cooking, cleaning, living together) the idea is to give the pensioners the possibility to meet other youth from different backgrounds. It is also the opportunity for international volunteers to get to know other people through an original project. The inclusion of all into the group will be promoted through times of exchanges such as the work, the meals that will be jointly taken and leisure activities, despite differences and personal difficulties. A first project was successfully organised in 2003.

SJ33 Vallerois FC 10/7-31/7 RENO 15
Work: Vallerois owns a beautiful castle and striking traditional buildings (stone walls, a church from the 16th Century, etc.). 30 meters of one of the walls will be renovated following a traditional technique. Volunteers will make cement, cut stones, and place them in the wall in a way that respects traditional methods. This will be the opportunity for volunteers to acquire masonry and stone-cutting skills. SJ34 Itteville IDF 10/7-31/7 RENO/ENVI 15
Work: Two workcamps were already organized in 2002 and 2003 in this commune, in partnership with the service " significant natural spaces" of the General Council of the Essonne. This year, the project of the will aim to the installation of the pedestrian excursion path around the pond of Saussay. The objectives will be double: construction of a footbridge connecting the bank to a small island, for the moment inaccessible to the walkers; and restoration of a hut being used as resting area for the walkers. The project will take place over two years and the volunteers, within the framework of an international workcamp, will be assisted by the technical services of the commune. Small ecological jobs will be also added for the maintenance of the pedestrian paths.

SJ35 Tantonville LOR 10/7-31/7 RENO 12
Work: This is the second time that Solidarites Jeunesses La Clef and the municipality of Tantonville have worked together to organise an international workcamp. This summer’s volunteers will repair the wall surrounding the parish church and clean several wayside crosses. In order to present different aspects of the local heritage to visitors, the volunteers will assist in the renovation of a discovery trail.
Numerous activities permitting the meeting of the international volunteers and the local population will be put into place, with the objective of integrating local youth into the workcamp and rendering them active participants in the renovation of their heritage.

Project: St Georges is a village very motivated to host a workcamp in 2004. The project will consist in renovating a public wash house, a small public house made in traditional stones, and some traditional walls, on the same area. The volunteers will realze some work of masonry, and cleaning, and will share some events of the village’s life !

SJ37 Andelot CHAMP-ARD 12/7-1/8 RENO 15
Project: This is the first time that our association has cooperated with the association “Espace Bevaux” to organise an international workcamp. It is part of a much wider project, which seeks to highlight the exceptional qualities of an archeological site nearby.
The international volunteers will rehabilitate the primary burial mound of the site, as well as the secondary stone sepultures which depend upon it. These were the subject of archeological digs in the 1970s but were left afterwards in the state in which they were discovered. The pillars which support the stone megaliths of the sepultures must, notably, be repositioned.
The meeting and mutual integration of local and international volunteers will be, more than ever, a key aspect of this project.

SJ38 Domevre sur Aviere LOR 12/7-1/8 RENO/SOC 15
Project: Domevre sur Aviere is a small village located 8 km outside of Epinal. The municipality is a member of the Community of Boroughs of the District of Olima and of the Val d’Aviere, organisation which, through its multiple actions, seeks to highlight the multiple facettes of the landscape of the region. It was thus decided that in 2004, an international workcamp would participate in the cleaning and promotion of the fountain of Domevre and the discovery trail which passes through the village. This discovery trail has fallen into abandon. Its paving peters out shortly before the fountain, obliging visitors to follow a simple dirt trail, and once at the fountain they cannot go beyond it to discover other hidden marvels of this village. The work of the volunteers is all traced out. The meeting and mutual integration of local and international volunteers will be, more than ever, a key aspect of this project.

Work: After five years several enhancing works have been done in the village (cleaning the river , construction of a bus stop, etc). This year, the volunteers will roughcast a wall and they will do some works in order to improve the surroundings of a municipal building. The volunteers will have the opportunity to discover the flora and fauna of this mountainous region through the different activities that will be organised.

SJ40 Souvigny AUV 15/7-5/8 ANIM/ARTS 16
Work: The "Souvigny Grand Site" organises an 8-day long medieval fair full of activities such as artistic workshops, music, dance, troubadours, banquets and taverns. Volunteers have participated to the setting up, animation and clearing up of the fair since 1996. This year the volunteers will participate during the first week to the decorations and stands setting up. During the second week they will have the opportunity to fully be part of the middle aged fair : meals preparation, food serving, animal caring, pottery and iron-forging workshops. Finally, the last days of the camp will be dedicated to the clearing up the decorations as well as to the general cleaning up of the site.

SJ41 Chardes PC 16/7-7/8 RENO 12
Work: The municipaly of Chardes has hosted an international workcamp in 2003 who has renovated the Essert fountain. Since the work did not reach to its end the village wishes to renew the experience especially because of the rich exchanges that took place between the volunteers and the local inhabitants. This new exchange will allos the works to be finished. The volunteers will work on the coveringof the fountain with cutting stones, will take off the roughcqasting and will coat the interior walls, will set up a wooden base over the existing beams and will set up a pick-nick table..

SJ42 Fresne Saint Mames FC 17/7-7/8 RENO 15
Work: A spring in the lowest part of the village continuously flows and thus feeds a small brook. The whole masonry construction that supported the banks of this brook has to be renovated. In more details this concerns the supporting walls which are around 60 meters long. This year volunteer will renovate about 20 meters. The project is planned to run for some years. Another part of the work will be the improvement of the "bridge" over the brook and the improvement of its safety (which is now only made of two wooden rods). The wall will be completely taken down by volunteers, a concrete basement will be implemented and volunteers will build up the wall again. They will make cement, cut stones, and place them in a way that respects traditional methods. This will be the opportunity for volunteers to acquire masonry and stone-cutting skills. Besides the work leisure and cultural activities with the local population will also be organised.

Work: The council of Pont de Planches has decided to renovate the paving and the flow of a wash-house which is located in the lowest part of the village. The first part of the work was done last year and permitted to build the entire gutter that is used to evacuate the water and capture the spring. The work was greatly done. This year volunteers will complete the paving. The work will be prepared before the work-camp so volunteers will have to place the stones on mortar. They will make cement, cut stones, and place them on the ground in a way that respects traditional methods. This will be the opportunity for volunteers to acquire masonry and stone-cutting skills. Besides the work leisure and cultural activities will also be organised.

SJ44 Noisiel IDF 17/7-7/8 ENVI 15
Project: This workcamp relates to a river a 5 km long located in the historical park of Noisiel. Volunteers will participate to the development of two footbridges and their accesses, the clearing of undergrowth and cleaning of the banks upstream and downstream. Another task to be done will be the cleaning of the footbridge upstream and its accesses. The objective is to give this heritage its identity with a light cleaning on the one hand and on the other hand an enhancement of the site taking into account of the existing ecosystem.

Work: The municipality of Saint Christophe is hosting an international summer camp for the second year in order to make more dynamic the village and to enhance the local architectural heritage. The international volunteers will participate to the renovation of a dry-stoned wall, of a fontain and of a water canal.

Work: For 10 years now Aubeterre's Discovery Centre has been organising workcamps in order to complete its 2 hectares estate dedicated to environmental education. This year, the centre, together with the "Charente Nature" association and the volunteers, will work on the surroundings of a pond and of a small river and will test some hydraulic tools – e.g. footbridges, mills, dams. The setting up of plantation zones will be part of the project in this wonderful place which will enable the centre to open to the public all year through.

SJ47 Boresse et Martron PC 23/7-14/8 RENO 12
Work: The municipality of Boresse et Martron has bought a building located in one of the main plazas. This building is currently in ruins and it is their wish to transform it into a multipurpose building. Les volontaires will take off the roughcasting of the walls inside and outside of the building, they will do some masonry work in the fragiles parts and in the cornice in order to do some coating in the two faces of the wall.

SJ48 Vaunieres 4 PACA 25/7-14/8 RENO 15
Project: At 1200 m of altitude, Vaunieres, small village up in the mountains is a place of exchanges and international meetings. Thousands of people, since 1963, helped to its restoration. The volunteers will participate to the renovation of a wall that has been damaged due ti the sinking of the ground as well as to the construction of a baker's oven. A “bread evening” will be organised together with a proffesional baker from a nearby village.The volunteers will also take part in the daily life of the village (fire pit gatherings, improvised musical evenings, etc...). To note that the team does not organize activities like a club of holidays, but the possibilities of discovering our area are numerous and the occasions to divert itself do not miss. The volunteers will also take part in the organization of the collective life (shopping, meals, animations, maintenance of collectifs spaces)avec the support of the team.
Accommodation: In a house of the village adapted to wheel chairs.
Location: Vaunieres is located 6 km away from St Julien en Beauchene in the French Alps, 70 km away from Grenoble.

Remarks: Attention this workcamp requires a particular will to work in the environmental field and to learn the ecological cinstruction technics. Envisage good shoes and a good sleeping bag because the nights in mountains are fresh even in summer.


SJ50 Void-Vacon LOR 26/7-15/8 RENO 12
Work: The 2004 workcamp will be the second year of cooperation between our association and the village of Void-Vacon.
The site of “La Poterne” is so named because of the gate which still stands there once offered access to the courtyard of the local castle. This remarkable structure, which includes a pigeon-coop, is in need of renovation. The volunteers will work on its western wing.
Since the volunteers will be lodged in the heart of the village, it is expected that the meeting between local inhabitants and they will be spontaneous. These informal encounters will be reinforced by the action of local officials and of youth leaders, leading to the creation of more specific moments, such as a welcoming party and leisure activities.

Work: This association has a hosting centre for couples and families with difficulties. With this possibility of accommodation there is a following-up of these persons (administrative support, help to look for a job, an accommodation, etc…). But in this place, there is no room dedicated to the games of the children. The aim of the workcamp is to renovate a small house which is now a workroom, in order to transform it in an area for the children to play. The volunteers will realize a preparatory work (masonry, cleaning, clearing, etc…) ; moreover, they will organize games and educative activities with the children, and with the participation of the educators of the centre.
Accommodation: we don’t know yet, but it should be in a room of another association.

SJ52 Traveling in Bourbon 2 AUV 28/7-28/8 RENO/ENVI 12
Project: AGONGES, YGRANDE and BUXIERES LES MINES.-The international volunteers will discover the land of Bourbon by working in five different villages. The idea of this project is to revive and enhance the local heritage following the pathways that encircles the region where the participant communities are located. The volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in different works such as the renovation of a chapel and a wash-house, the clearing out of a pedestrian pathway, among others. Thus volunteers will have the possibility to discover the Land of Bourbon not only through its natural and cultural heritage but also and through the contact with the local population.
Work: This is the second part of the project. In Agonges the volunteers will work in the surroundings of a school and of the church and realise paintiing and masonry works. In Ygrande they will renovate the see-saw of the village and its shelter. In Buxieres les Mines the volunteers will work on the clearing of a small river running along a pedestrain path.

SJ53 Traveling in Bocage Sud 2 AUV 29/7-22/8 RENO/ENVI 12
Project: NOYANT D'ALLIER, GIPCY.- The group of international volunteers will engage in the discovering of the Land of Bocage Sud by working on the renovation and enhancement of the local architectural and natural heritage in four different villages in the medieval community of Souvigny where a specific project will take place each time. Volunteers will have the opportunity to meet the inhabitants who will follow the different steps of the project. Thus volunteers will have the possibility to discover the region of Souvigny not only through its natural and cultural heritage but also through the contact with the local population. Each step will be a new event, each project will be different... the paths will then be varied...
Work: . This is the second part of the project. In Noyant d’Allier the volunteers will clear out a pedestrian path. In Gipcy they will participate to the renovation of a chapel

SJ54 Mouthiers sur Boheme PC 30/7-21/8 RENO 12
Work: The council of Mouthiers wants to host an international work-camp in order to organise an activity in which the young villagers can be involved, discover voluntary service and meet other cultures. The project is to renovate a traditional baking oven which is now in a very bad shape. As the work to be done is very important, many successive international work-camps will have to be organised so the oven can be used again during local festivities or other cultural events. This year volunteers will do some masonry work on the outside vault and the inside entrance of the oven, they will take down and rebuild the chimney and they will renovate a small wall opposite the wash-house.

Remarks: Volunteers will have to ride bicycles everyday for at least 3 km to go to work.

SJ55 Orignoles PC 30/7-21/8 RENO 12
Work: The municipality of Orignoles has already hosted an international last year. The volunteers had worked in the setting up of a wooden roof frame over the Fontsableau wash-house. In fact the idea is that the volunteers transform the current state of a 50 year old wash-house into a brand new one. The commune wishes to make this wash-house part of a pedestrian path way in which a pick-nick area will be set. The volunteers will coat the walls, will set up flat stones on the floor and will do some minor works in the nearby surroundings.
Remarks: The workcamp is located 2 km from the village and the volunteers will make the trip in bicycles.

Work: Vandoncourt is a village that managed to keep its old style. Many local organisations make it a lively place and develop important activities. Many international work-camps have already been organised in Vandoncourt and now the council wants to host another one that will improve and highlight the wash-houses. Work: In Montmirey stands a very beautiful wash-house (also used as a drinking spot) that is still irrigated and in a good shape but needs to be renovated. During the project volunteers will work on the paving and some parts of the surrounding wall, and on the capture of a spring that irrigates the wash-house. Volunteers will make cement, cut stones, and place them in a way that respects traditional methods. This will be the opportunity for volunteers to acquire masonry and stone-cutting skills. Two work-camps are foreseen, in 2004 and 2005. Besides the work leisure and cultural activities with the local population will also be organised.

Work: Fontenoy la Joute – otherwise known as the “Village of Books” - will host its fourth international workcamp this year. The workcamp is part of a global, long-term project to renovate the local heritage of the village, whose focal point is the St Pierre chapel.
In 2004, the volunteers will repair the wall surrounding the chapel, following in the footsteps of the workcamps of the last three years. They can also expect to play an active role in preparing a discovery trail.

SJ59 Traveling in the Vosges LOR 2/8-22/8 SPECIAL PROJECT 12
Work: For the first time, youngsters coming from four different countries will gather in the Vosges region in order to prepare and present a lively spectacle. In the frist part of the project the volunteers will get to know each other so as to be able to well prepare the show that aims to be a multicultural expression. To th eimage of the trouvadours, les volunteers will prersent their work in the neighbouring villages they will traverse. This exchange ails as well at giving the volunteers the possibility to share their cultural differences and at the same time discovering a region and an artistic context.

Work: Three communities members of the intercity council of the Pays de Charlieu want to work together to mobilise the local youth through different activities organised in their respective villages. The international volunteers will be part of this project of embellishment and animation in the region. In the village of Pouilly sous Charlieu, they will participate to the enhancement of the roadside crosses. They will participate to the renovation of a magnificent stairs located in the village of Vougy. The volunteers will participate in the French music festival organised in Benisson Dieu.

Work: This year the workcamp will consist in the renovation of two rooms and a hallway in the social centre of Roissy en brie. The volunteers will also do ciment waterproofing and the setting of a fiber glass canvas on the walls. During the theird week the walls of the centre will be painted by both, the volunteers and the village children.

Work: The municipality has the will to set up on the commune diffrent activities, in particular for the young people. It thus calls upon an international project of restoration of three tombs located in a funeral square within the cemetery. These tombs are about 250 years old and are in bad condition, work will thus include the cleaning of the stones, the renovation of the tombs and that of a small wall of enclosure, their jointing...

Work: The community of Mosnac owns a very peculiar chapel: just for the record, the father of an ill girl had swear to transform his windmill into a chapel if his daughter.And the windmill was transformed into a chapel which nowadays need to be renovated. Together with a local association and the villagers, the volunteers will take part in the renovation of this chapel. They will remove the roughcast of the walls and then they will coat the surface of the interior and exterioir walls. There wil be the possibility for a gourp of unemployed adults to join the project whhich will make it richer.

Work: This is the second time that our association and the Historical and Archeological Society of La Mothe will work together. The resulting international workcamp is part of an ongoing project to renovate the citadel of La Mothe, which played a key role in the history of France and of the region of Lorraine. The volunteers will take part in numerous renovation works on this important site. They will also have the occasion to prepare the festival organised annually by the Historical and Archeological Society of La Mothe.

Work: Faverney is a village that owns striking historical buildings – a beautiful stone bridge with 9 arches, a house with a front wall from the 15th Century, a enormous building from 1714, etc. Among the important heritage the village owns many wash-houses and has started to renovate them, especially with the help of international work-camps. For the first stage of the work a fountain that is located along the main street will be renovated. This monument is "swallowed" by a field on one side and by a pavement on the other side. The fountain will be paved again in order to be highlighted. A small supporting wall will also be built to limit its borders on the side of the park where it stands and to improve its position in the landscape. Volunteers will make cement, cut stones, and place them in a way that respects traditional methods. This will be the opportunity for volunteers to acquire masonry and stone-cutting skills. Besides the work leisure and cultural activities with the local population will also be organised.

Work: The municipality of Ambierle wants to host an international volunteer workcamp to promote the local development and to revive the dynamics of the village. The volunteers will participate to the improvement of the surroundings of a local open air theatre and also to the animation organised during this period of the year particularly during the Friday night markets and the Summer festival. This project aims also at the mobilisation of the local population and particularly the youth.

Work: The association “Solidarites Jeunesses Le Creneau” organises each year a traditional and cultural fair in the courtyard of its 19th century Castle of Prureaux. This year during the 4th and 5th of September several artisans, artists and local producers will participate in this fair, exhibiting and presenting their crafts and art-works as well as leading various artistic workshops. The volunteers will prepare and install the stands and the scenery, prepare the exhibitions and take part in the organisation of the event (including meal preparation and serving, reception and hosting of the visitors, preparing the open-air cafe and dance floor, etc) The last days will be dedicated to take all the stands down, to arrange and clean up the site.

Project: Since 1993, Domaine de Mayne has been an international community centre devoted to meetings and creative work while being renovated at the same time. The organisation is involved in 3 areas: social work, environment and contemporary art. Domaine du Mayne itself is a 130 hectares wide estate and is covered by fields and Mediterranean flora. Volunteers will take part in the finishing off works of toilets two toilets that have been contructed recently. Erthenware tiles will be placed on the walls and on the floor and some floor-covering with stones coming from the region will be done.
Accommodation: In the community centre, with all facilities at disposal.

SJ72 Gasques MP 30/8-20/9 RENO 12
Project: Gasques is a small village which will host a workcamp for the first time in 2004. The project will consist in renovating a place accessible thanks to beautiful stairs hollowed out in the stone. On this area, there are a well, a source and a public wash house, so the volunteers will make traditional masonry and will clear the ground with the participation of the villagers, motivated by this first workcamp !
Accommodation: in the village hall.
Location: Gasques is at about 90 km from Toulouse, in the South-West of France.

SJ73 Epinal LOR 6/9-26/9 RENO/ENVI 12
Work: Over the years, the park of Epinal Castle has become a place of peaceful grace and harmony. The municipality, in seeking to restore its local heritage, has always woven into its project the desire to see the local population play an active role.
In 2003, a workcamp began the renovation of a platform, perched above the town, which used to have a military function. It is to the volunteers of this year’s workcamp that they have passed the flame.
The participants will continue with the bringing-up of earth and the flattening of the ground. The area will then be enclosed by a wall in order to stabilise the platform. Archaeological digs were recently carried out on the site and it is possible that the ongoing mission will require part of the planned work to be delayed.
The volunteers will play an active part in the preparation and animation of cultural events organised on the site during National Heritage Day, an annual event in France.

SJ74 Saulxures s/Moselotte LOR 6/9-26/9 RENO/ENVI 16
Work: After the success of last year’s workcamp in the village of Cornimont, the Community of Boroughs of the Haute Moselotte wishes to carry forward its cooperation with our association. This year’s workcamp will intervene in the village of Saulxures sur Moselotte, which englobes a site of great natural beauty, the “Bambois”. Here can be found a network of peat bogs, heavily exposed to the sun. The resulting very hot and dry micro-environment harbours rare animals and plants. The volunteers, by fabricating and installing notice boards, will contribute to explaining the specificities of this site to the general public. The meeting and mutual integration of local and international volunteers will be, more than ever, a key aspect of this project.

SJ75 Arronnes AUV 7/9-28/9 RENO 12
Work: The municipality of Arronnes wants to develop the rural patrimony of the region and to set up a "Peasantry House" which will be located in an old building in which there is an oven, an iron workshop, and an exhibition hall for old agricultural tools. The volunteers will work on the roughcasting of the pointing of some stone-made bridges and to the covering of a water well. They will organise different gatherings and activities to discover the region and a Grand Opening of the "Peasantry House" will take place at the end of the workcamp.

Location: Arronnes is located at about 15 km from Vichy.

SJ76 Beaumotte FC 11/9-2/10 ENVI 12
Project: The association of the Center of Beaumotte wishes to create on its own site a strong environmental education project. The volunteers will make explanatory panels, and place them in an old sand pit located near the Center, which will contain the characteristics of fauna and the flora in the area. They will to establish various infrastructures in order to make possible to observe the birds living there. They will build ramps for the boats to dock which allow an easier acces to the islands located right in the miccdle of the river Ognon and in which one of the observatories will be placed. They will finally work on the clearing of the acces path and will construct a barrier to avoid the entry of motorized vehicles. A preliminary work will be conducted to determine the work to be done during the camp and it will consist on preparing the material for the panels et setting the places for the observatories. Different leisure and discovering activities will be proposed.

Location: Beaumotte is 25 km south of Vesoul and 25 km north of Besancon.
Terminal: Vesoul and Besancon are the nearest train stations.


SJ77 Montreuil-les-Beaumonts2 IDF 20/9-11/10 ENVI 15
Project: The organization of international workcamps lies within the scope of the “Charter for the Environment of the town of Montreuil”. For the seventh time, the partnership between Solidarites Jeunesses and the commune of Montreuil are renewed for the year 2004, through two successive workcamps in July and September. This will be second of the two camps organised this year which will aim at the ecological maintenance of the green area of the park. Works will include the clearing of the area, freeing the fruit trees from climbing plants, cutting branches and trimming the fruit trees and the extraction of anthropic waste.

SJ78 Beauvoisin LR 2/10-23/10 RENO 12
Work: The association Reseau d'Entraide Volontaire, is the regional delegation of Solidarites Jeunesses in Languedoc Roussillon. Some work have to be done on the hosting house of long term volunteer in order to complete the restoration engaged since 1999. The work will be varied (roof, removing joinery, and some small work inside) and a part will take place on scaffolding.

Location: Beauvoisin is a wine-growing village situated 15 km from Nimes.

SJ79 Chateau des Prureaux 4 AUV 16/12-2/1 RENO/ANIM 12
Work: Solidarites Jeunesses-Le Creneau is trying to improve its international hosting centre, an 19th century castle located in an old agricultural estate. Besides carrying out different masonry and landscape works the volunteers will work with disabled people, with long term volunteers, and youngsters in social reintegration. This gathering will offer the possibility for the participants coming from different parts of the world to share their solidarity spirit and their tolerance whilst preparing the Christmas and New Year's celebrations.

Location: Montcombroux les Mines is located between Vichy and Moulins in the centre of France.

SJ80 La Ferte Alais IDF To be defined RENO 15
Project: After the restoration of an old wash-house last year, the commune of Ferte Alais again organizes an international workcamp this summer 2004. The first phase of work will consist with the development of a double lime kiln: release of the accesses of the furnace, work of consolidation of the stone structures around the furnace, delimitation of a perimeter of protection and small environmental jobs aiming at the ecological maintenance of the surroundings.
