Lorraine - 8 vol. (6 Inter + 2 French)
Project: This workcamp is part of a larger project to improve the appreciation
of the hill of Sion Vaudemont. The objectives of the site include interpreting
the site and developing it culturally and socially to welcome visitors. Evidence
of rural life in the 19th century can be found at le Gayoir de Vaudemont (a
bath to cool down horses after working), which is situated next to the road
going into and out of the village of Vaudemont. This structure is degraded and
neglected and overgrown with vegetation.
You will restore the old bath for horses. Many different traditional techniques
will be discovered, including paving, stone chiselling and making lime mortar.
With the help of a local association you will have the chance to carry out some
research in the form of an inquiry on the history of the bath of horses.
Vaudemont is a small village (40 residents). It is situated on the hill of Sion,
a place known for its peaceful ambience. This area is used for paragliding,
mountain biking and walking. The cities of Nancy and Metz are close by. If you
would like more information on the region before your arrival, log on to: www.cr-lorraine.fr

Project: In the final stages of developing its touristic potential and interpreting
and sharing its patrimony, the villages of the valley of the river Hure continues
with the creation of a theme footpath based on the first World War (1914-1918).
Originally it was simply a walking route but during the war it became strategically
important for the observation during combat. To improve the interpretation of
the site for visitors the community welcomes international volunteers again
this year.
You will repair 3 stone shelters dating from the 1rst WW and you will restore
part of the route. You will also be involved in searching for traces of the
past (for example, old ammunition shells, stones engraved with the names of
soldiers). A couple of days of training in how to search and how to handle artefacts
will be organised by a local history group.
The workcamp takes place in a small, but lively valley in the heart of the Vosges.

Project: Favieres is a small but lively community which has organised numerous
activities to welcome visitors and develop its touristic potential. In the two
last years, the village has hosted an international workcamp and the representatives
of the village were very pleased by the result of these experiences of an intercultural
gathering. This year the young people of the village will invite you to participate
in a number of activities in and around the workcamp.
Your mission is to restore the old cemetery of the village, which is no longer
used since the early 1900s. The idea is to preserve the mysterious and magical
atmosphere of the place where the residents come to take a walk and storytelling
events are organised for the children. You will continue with the restoration

U/31 SAVA 5/7-23/7 ENVI
Alsace - 6 vol. (5 Inter + 1 French)
Project: The originality of this new project between Etudes et Chantiers and
the association SAVA lies in its involvement with two associations which respectively
carry out their environmental work in the same area (the valley of Schirmeck):
the "Conservatoire des Sites Alsaciens" (CSA, the Academy of Alsacien
Sites) and the "Grange aux sabots" (the Hoof Barn). It is in the context
of positive action to maintain the traditional landscape that the SAVA proposes
to run an international workcamp.
The majority of the work will be to clear the undesirable scrub vegetation (trees
and bushes). This will allow grasses and wild flowers to gradually recolonize
the sites. The local volunteers of the CSA and the "Ferme des Sabots"
which have already carried out work on the sites have been invited to meet you
and they will participate in the clearing.

Ile de France - 12 vol. (8 Inter + 4 French)
Project: For the 8th year, the Antoine Koenigswater centre organise an international
workcamp. All over the year, this socio-educational centre (in a castle) hosts
young people (12-17 year old) facing serious social difficulties (for ex: very
low educational level, hard family conditions). Once again the international
group will work with the young residents.
The work will concern the educational farm situated in the park. For the moment
this farm is reserved for the centre residents who discover there farming and
food production. In one year the farm should be open to visitors ; you will
lay fences and install ways to channel the animals going to the Juine river.
You might also help in the park inventory and the valorisation of the arboretum.
The castle of Gillevoisin, 3 km from the town of Janville sur Juine (3,000 inhabitants),
is in a pleasant and peaceful valley. Even if Paris is not far away, you are
in the countryside. Be aware that it is not so easy to organise visits to Paris.
So if you want to visit the French capital, it is better to plan it before,
or after the camp. To encourage and facilitate the meeting with the young people,
this project is open to volunteers speaking French. Of course volunteers must
be open to exchange with young people facing difficulties. www.cr-ile-de-france.fr

U/85 Salagnon 19/7-6/8 CONS
Rhone-Alpes - 8 vol. (7 Inter + 1 French)
Project: The town of Salagnon wishes to set up a meeting space for local young
people and organisations. The prefab building at their disposal needs to be
assembled, which is why the town needs the help of young international volunteers.
The town authorities would like to foster an international gathering with the
locals within a larger civic awareness action. You should be interested in youth
issues and exchanges.
The building will be mounted on a 250-square-meter concrete foundation slab
that will be connected to sanitation and electricity. You will have to set up
the walls in a wooden structure, install the carpentry with a crane and lay
the roof tiles. A local worker will supervise the work;
Salagnon is a rural village located in a suburban environment near Lyon facing
recent residential development with more and more young people in need of suitable
animation equipment. It is part of an area called the "Bas Dauphine" with many
medieval sites nearby (Cremieux, Perouge) as well as numerous ponds suitable
for swimming.
Accommodation: in a community centre near the work site.
