Your Excellency the Secretary General, Mr /Ms President, fellow Delegates, ladies and gentlemen,

Good afternoon

 

The delegation of Lebanon would like to welcome you all to the 12th Aristoteleio College Model United nations in Thessaloniki.

 

Lebanon is a founding member of the United Nations which was established on the 24th of October, 1945. It has been a non-permanent member of the Security Council twice so far, most recently from 2010 to 2011. Lebanon has adopted the initiatives set by the United Nations for a more effective working relationship between those UN member states whose primary focus is to integrate human rights into their perspectives and values.

 

After the end of the devastating 16-year civil war in 1991, we are certain that it is vital to ensure the interests, progress and welfare of our peoples if we, as states with common ties of friendship and solidarity explore ways of action to create the conditions of global peace and security.

It is important, therefore, for the welfare of the world that we come to a consensus on critical issues of our times such as the protection of human rights in work and religious matters as well as sex equality and peacemaking.

Lebanon wishes you all the most interesting debates during these two days!
