RESTORING A BOAT
Project: The youth department of the town council of Frontignan and an organisation named CAP au LARGE decided to welcome Concordia’s volunteers. CAP au LARGE has boats to help disadvantaged people to discover the sea. One of them has to be restored for disadvantaged people and/or handicapped to ship for several months. The two group leaders from Cap au Large will help the volunteers to discover the sea and this nice region. Many leisure activities are planned.
Work: Various fitting out works on the boat.
Location: 20 Km southwest of Montpellier

RENOVATION
Project: Navarrenx is a very beautiful country house of the Western South... in the Department of the Pyrenees Atlantiques... the history of Navarrenx merges with this of Concordia Aquitaine: one of the first building site of our delegation was low there, and was followed many other projects, around the restoration of the ramparts of the City. After a pause of a few years, the commune of Navarrenx remakes call to us for the restoration and the development of the Door of the Half-moon... carries inserted in the ramparts, and composed of two small parts, corroded by moisture and the saltpetre, which will have to be cleaned, to rejoint, renovate, dehumidify... etc etc!
Work: Masonry
Location: Department of the Pyrenees Atlantiques, in the heart of the Bearn, 40 km oust from Pau.

CLEARANCE OF A FOREST
Project: The community of St Eulalie acquired 2 years ago a vast area of forest surrounding a castle with the aim to put it at the inhabitants’ disposal. Last year, three international workcamps took place in order to preserve the forest and clean the area. This year, the volunteers will continue the work started last summer, in co-operation with a social inclusion organisation.
Work: Scrubbing, clearance, splitting.
Location: St Eulalie is located in the suburbs of Bordeaux. It is a little community which has managed to keep its rural character.

CONC 061 LE PUY-EN-VELAY 4/6 26/6 RENO 14
RENOVATION
Project: This project will be situated within the town Puy, at the farm “Bel Air”.
Up to now, this site was run by an association, a pedagogical farm with discovery activities for children. Presently, the municipality is taking over the site. It hopes to modify the farm in order to re-open it as an “environmental leisure and education centre”.
The work will be to arrange and clean the outside of the farm. Each Wednesday, the international group will meet the children who come to play at the farm. There will also be some exchanges with the local population of the suburb “Guitard” where the farm is situated. The normally very closed suburb will open up to the outside world thanks to the international group. The educators of the suburb’s social centre will help to organise these contacts.
Work: You will participate in the improvement of the leisure centre: cleaning and preparation of a playground and of some small animal’s buildings, re-construction of a staircase made of wood and earth which will access to the future vegetable garden, building of a fence, transforming the pony’s box into a hen-house, destruction of wooden cabins, and meetings with children each Wednesday.
Location: Puy-en-Velay (20500 inhabitants), regional capital of lace and lentil, is situated in the department “Haute-Loire”. 120 km south of Clermont-Ferrand, the town Puy-en-Velay is situated within the Mountains of Velay which are rich of architectural treasures.

RESTORATION OF A WASH-HOUSE
Project: The commune “Saignes” is welcoming a workcamp of Concordia for the first time. The municipality’s priority is the exchange with and the inclusion of the local young people in the project, it hopes to wake the inhabitants’ interest and to organise some activities at the weekends. In restoring the wash-house of Vialle, the project will participate promoting local heritage history. You will discover Cantal’s traditions and heritage of the XIIth century.
Work: You will be restoring an ancient wash-house: cleaning and making joints within the two tanks made of granite, restoring of two little walls of stone (repairing of joints with lime and replacing of the stones at the top of the wall). You will be clearing of the moss on the surrounding pavement.
Location: Saignes (1000 inhabitants) is situated within the department Cantal, 90km south-west of Clermont-Ferrand.
Accommodation: In tents (on groundsheet) at the municipality’s camping area

Project: A little nice elementary school almost as a picture from a school. In clear language it will be a french school in a rural area very typical some how a little old fashion one. The Major of the little town is really motivated to receive young people from abroad and will be the one making at the time the job with the volunteer, make the material coming and so on so on …The project will be to give a second life to this little school taking out the old scarry painting to discover the rock on the wall as a natural cover.

RESTORATION OF STONE WALLS
Project: It is the first year that Concordia collaborate with the town of Montreal. Yes, Montreal, but not in Quebec! Same convivial atmosphere but milder temperature!
Montreal is a very nice fortified town in the South-West of France, in the heart of Gers county and the community is proud of its typical local heritage. The volunteers will restore stone walls and decorations in the small streets of the village.
Work: Traditional masonry.
Location: Montréal du Gers is situated in the Midi-Pyrénées region, in Gers County, 6 km from Lagraulet du Gers.

PAINTING IN A SCHOOL
Project: For the second year, the town of St Ciers is glad to host an international workcamp. This time, the volunteers will go back to school! The volunteers will paint the classrooms and the staff room and if there will be some time left, they will be free to use their imagination to paint a big fresco in the schoolyard.
Work: Painting, painting and painting.
Location: St Ciers sur Gironde is located in the north of the Gironde County, between two region: Aquitaine and Poitou Charente. St Ciers is near the village of Blaye on the estuary of the river Gironde.

REMOVING RETAINING WALLS
Project: Since several years, Concordia worked in this tiny village in the hinterlands of the Hérault, an old mining place. Last year, the municipality of Graissessac decided to repaint the roof of the old Protestant temple. This year, the volunteers will clear and restore retaining walls along lanes. The relationship with the local population was very rich and we can think that it will be the same this year. Graissessac’s area is typical of the middle mountain between the Mediterranean vegetation and the mountains of the Massif Central. There are many possibilities of walks and some other leisure’s will be organised by the group.
Work: Clearing vegetation, masonry
Location: Graissessac is situated in the north of Hérault in a quite and isolated area. This village is 80 km north east of Montpellier in the south of France.

VARIUS WORKS IN THE VILLAGE
Project: This is the thirteenth year that Concordia organises a workcamp in Castelnau-de-Levis. The groups used to restore the week parts of the castle and a pigeon house. This year they will restore several historical parts of the village as a wall of the church, a washing-house, stairs. Some basic works can be done around the castle. Notice that the local population is very friendly and that an important close friendship is linked each year. www.mairie-albi.fr

Location: With its impressive tower (40 m) and its ramparts, the castle overlooks the village, very crowded in summer. 5 Km from Albi. It is a historically rich area with many possibilities for walks and visits (the cathedral of Albi is very famous)

DISCOVERING THE URBAN ENVIRONEMENT
Project: Alençon city, is greeting international work camps for 7 years. This year the town organize the upkeep of a bicycle way. Between the country side and the urban centre you will clean and remove wastes from a small river. Meetings with young Alençon inhabitants are forecasted.
Work: clearing tasks
Location: Alençon is a dynamic town of 30 000 inhabitants, located in Normandy.
Accommodation: Municipal camping with built bathroom fittings and school kitchen.

SMALL TOWN BUT WITH CHARACTER
Project: This is the sixth workcamp organized by Concordia in Saint Denis d'Anjou. Little character city known to be one of the prettiest village of Mayenne because of his medieval style. Like the previous year the work will be linked to the restoration of a stone wall.
Location:. Mayenne region, 40 km north far from Angers. The region is rich with castles, abbeys and waterways. Beautiful tour in view!
Work: Traditional masonry.
Accommodation: Football stadium, built bathroom fittings and accommodation.

RESTORATION OF THE INTERIOR OF THE CHURCH
Project: Gournay hides some treasures of local heritage that need to be promoted: its church, its funeral monument in the shape of a small pyramid, and its doorway to the chateau that once stood in the village. Gournay’s church is of a considerate size, it was partly rebuilt after a fire had destroyed most of the nave. After hosting its first workcamp last year, Gournay would like to host another international group to carry on the work in the church.
Work: You will be working on the wooden statues, tables and stalls of the church. This work must be precise as these elements are of quality and value. You will be cleaning and treating the wood, in some cases certain elements will need changing.
Location: Gournay is 20km west of Compiegne
Accommodation: Sleeping in tents, group life in the annexe of the local town hall.
Meeting Point: Compiegne train station, please be on time.
Extra Information: You will have the opportunity to meet young people from the village and its surroundings, you can organise sports and / or cultural activities with them.

RESTORATION OF THE ST SAUVEUR CHAPEL
Project: This little village only has 520 inhabitants and can be found on the Picard Plateau in the centre of the region. It hides from the public eye a remarkable chapel, the St Sauveur Chapel built in 11th Century and an 16th Century church whose bell tower and nave are classified by the Ministry of Culture. Wishing to restore its local heritage, the village council wishes to host a group of international volunteers who, while working on the chapel, will be able to add some dynamism to the village activities.
Work: You will work on the inside and outside of the chapel: jointing, taking off the plaster from the walls in order to let the stones breathe, replace a few stones where necessary, plaster the inner walls with a lime mixture and if there is time, clean and treat the wooden entrance
Location: Léglantiers is a small rural village near to the small town of St Just en Chaussée in the Oise County.
Accommodation: In the local village hall, showers are in the local football changing rooms.

GRAVEYARD RESTORATION OF THE FORMER OBLATE COMMUNITY
Project: Surrounded by Vercors mountains, Notre Dame de l’Osier is a famous pilgrimage site (Virgin Mary’s apparition place). The village is located in Sud-Grésivaudan Valley where delicious and famous walnuts are harvested. The village has inherited a plot of land from a religious brotherhood of Oblates where the graveyard needs to be restored.
A first international workcamp took place in October 2003. Village families and people from the retired house warmly welcomed the volunteers all thier stay long by organising meals and trips accross the region.
Work: Follow up of last year: making coating and remade tops of walls called “couvertines” according to a special technique for framing and casting.
Location: Only 50 kms from Grenoble and 6 kms from Vinay, Capital city of walnut production! Typical villages such as Pont-en-Royans with its water museum and Saint-Antoine l’Abbaye, walks in Vercors mountain, Choranche caves, walnut production farms are looking forward to amazing you!
Accommodation: You will stay in a rural house in the centre of the village.

FOOTPATHS UPKEEPING
Project: Neuville les Dames and its inhabitants have been used to warmly hosting international workcamps since 1998: lots of people are always mobilised for area discover, communal parties and meals and the traditional show at the end of the workcamp. Les "Temps Chauds" music festival will take place during the workcamp period. Why wouldn’t you propose to perform an intercultural show together with Neuville-les-Dames band? Come and visit surroundings : Dombes area discover, visit of Châtillon-sur-Chalaronne, Bourg-en-Bresse, etc.
Work: Footbridges, ponds banks upkeeping, some tree cutting over 10 Km footpaths. Diverse works on communal buildings.
Location: In a beautiful area of lakes called La Dombes, 20 Km west of Bourg en Bresse and 60 Km north of Lyon.
Accommodation: In a primary school at the back of the town hall in the centre of the village.

WORK ON A HIKING FOOTPATH
Project: Lanslevillard is located in the heart of Haute-Maurienne valley, a wild area surrounded by majestuous mountains. Together with Lanslebourg, Lanslevillard is part of Val Cenis famous winter sport station. In summer participating in this second international workcamp you will discover neighbourings of the village and walk along footpaths charmed by lovely restored chapels and oratories. Haute-Maurienne area is rich of an important architectural and artistic inherintance and Italy is very close.
Work: Work on a footpath going around the village. Scrub clearing, tree and bush cutting, wood log stairs making, etc. The aim is to make the path more accessible.
Location: In Haute-Maurienne valley, 25 kms from Modane in Savoy and 20 kms from the Italian border.
Accommodation: Local building, near the football field.

INTERIOR RESTORATION OF THE CHURCH AT MONTRELET
Project: The small village of Fieffes Montrelet is made up of two hamlets, Fieffes and Montrelet. They were united some thirty years ago but have kept their local identities. The village is hidden in the Somme countryside, hiding its heritage from the general public. Fieffes has a classified monument dating from XVI century and a rustic church in Montrelet. The two churches are linked via a footpath in the hills. The restoration of this church will help to promote its value to the general public and the local council believes that associating young people from around the world is the best way to involve the local inhabitants.
Work: Last year, the frist group of international volunteers worked on the restoration of the nave. This year, you will work on the walls of the entrance (taking of the plaster, jointing) and maybe on the construction of a stone arch. For this work, you will be using scaffolding. The end result is visible straight away and is quite rewarding.
Location: Fieffes Montrelet is in the countryside about 25 km from Amiens, the regional capital and does not have very easy access.
Accommodation: You will be lodged in the local village hall: one room for the dormitory, one for the kitchen. The showers and toilets are one site but in limited numbers.

RESTORATION OF A RAMPART
Project: For the first time Capdenac le Haut welcomes Concordia’s volunteers to restore a part of the rampart surrounding this historical town. They will have to dispoint the week parts, to repoint and sometimes to rebuild in traditional masonry.
The region is very touristic and welcoming so the volunteers will have many possibilities of visits, hikes, leisure.

RESTORING THE INNER WALLS OF A MARITIME FORTRESS
Project: Fort-Brescou is an island opposite Le Cap d'Agde on which a fortress has been build in the XVIth, and used for a while as a jail. Unique in the area, famous touristic attraction, this fortress suffers from the wind and the sea. Since ten years the village council of Agde has requested Concordia to restore it. In 2004, two new groups will settle on the island for three weeks, without electricity, without running water, without night-club...only tourists coming to visit the fortress by boat 4 times a day. CONC 069 MONISTROL 23/7 14/8 ENVI 15
Project: The experience of last year’s project has motivated the commune of Monistrol-sur-Loire to welcome a second workcamp this year. Lots of bonds where established between volunteers, local population and commune’s elected members which created a rich dynamic of contacts and exchanges. We are counting on this year’s workcamp to multiply these occasions of exchange, particularly with young people, by organising some activities with the hip-hop club.
As a follow-up of last year’s project, you will work on the renovation of a hiking path which surround the gorges of Bilhard, a natural site in the heart of the commune. This might also sharpen the participant’s awareness of the environment.
Work: Renovation of the second part of the hiking path around the gorges of Bilhard: cleaning, cutting the vegetation, making small embankments and creating wooden stairs
Location: Monistrol-sur-Loire (7500 inhabitants) is located close to the regional Park du Pilat, 30 km south of Saint-Etienne and 100 km south of Lyon.

WORK IN THE POTTERY MUSEUM
Project: The Pottery museum, the town council and the Parc Natural Régional du Narbonnais . (www.parc-naturel.com) decided to work with Concordia in this Museum. The volunteers will have to build walls with raw hearth in the site of the museum.

RENOVATION OF LITTLE WALLS
Project: Since 1993, Concordia has been renovating footpaths in the outskirts of Clermont-Ferrand to make them more accessible (clearing of vegetation and little masonry of stonewalls which are next to the paths). This activity aims to upgrate the value of the site, to give it back its ancient aspect (hedges, vineyards) and to create an attracting green place at the borders of the town. The workcamp of 2004 will continue this project. Besides, some work will be done with the youth workers of the area in order to integrate some local young people into the international group.
Work: Restoration of little walls, continue the work of last year. Clearing, replacing of stones, making joints
Location: Regional capital of the Auvergne, Clermont-Ferrand is located in the county of Puy-de-Dôme, between the regional Parc des Volcans and the Parc Livradois-Forez, 200 km west of Lyon and 400 km of Paris. Clermont-Ferrand is situated in a valley surrounded by volcanoes.
Accommodation: In a school (sleeping in a classroom).

Project: Since 8 years, Concordia works in co-operation with the communes du Bassin de Gannat. Several communes have already welcomed international workcamps whose projects considered the local patrimony. These experiences have been a real success in exchanges and relations with the local inhabitants.
This year’s project will take place at Saint-Germain-de-Salles where you will be restoring a wall of stones and a little pool of running water. There will be lots of contacts with the local inhabitants as well as lots of occasions to share moments of conviviality.
Work: You will participate in the restoration of the graveyard’s wall (masonry and making joints) as well as the clearing of a pool of running water (cleaning and restoration).
Location: Saint-Germain-de-Salles is located at 60 km North of Clermont-Ferrand in Allier country. It is an agricultural region, which owns lots of architecturally important treasures (roman castles and churches).

Project: The commune of Pont-du-Château has already welcomed some international workcamps a few years ago. This new project will allow the volunteers to meet the local inhabitants and to learn about the local history by restoring two staircases that lead to the castle of the 17th century that is situated within the heart of the commune. Presently, the offices of the town council are located within the castle. You will also meet the local young people.
Work: You will participate in the restoration of two staircases: repairing of stairs made of stone and construction of a pathway for baby-buggies (little masonry)
Location: Pont-du-Château (9000 inhabitants) is located 15 km est of Clermont-Ferrand. This dynamic city has an historic center and dominate river Allier valley.

Project: It is the fourth year that we organize an international work camp with “the conservatoire du littoral of Normandy”, for the highlight of the Contentine’s farm ruins. This traditional farm is situated on the coast, and the work camp is located 100 metres from the sea, on a remarkable site where you can see many different birds’ species.
Work: Masonry. This fourth workcamp get organised around a part of the farm's ruins.
Location: 20 km far from Cherbourg. La Hague region is considerate to be one of the beautiful areas of Norman littoral. Many trekking are possible and permit to discover the wild coast and its little creeks.
Accommodation: In municipal camping. Build bathrooms fittings and kitchen.

LANDSCAPE Work: SETTING UP A FITNESS CIRCUIT
Project: Two international volunteer camps were held in Montagny Ste Félicité in 1999 and 2000. This year, we are returning to help set up a fitness circuit for the local organisations and inhabitants as the local council wishes to incite them to exercise more.
Work: You will do clearance work and some masonry work setting up and fixing in the ground the different wooden elements of the fitness circuit. If you finish before the end of the project, you will help out with the landscaping of a ‘Memory garden’ in the village.
Location: Montagny Ste Felicité lies 10km from Ermenonville, 20 km from Senlis, a historical town, in the south of the Oise county.

Project: Les «Amis du Canton de Saint-Rambert» (St Rambert District Friends Organisation) have been working for years on the restoration of the village. The feodal castle ruins at the top of a hill overhanging the town is a good proof of the strategical position of the site in the Albarine Valley. International workcamps have been organised for three years giving exceptional moments of share with inhabitants and members of Les Amis du Canton de St-Rambert. Come and walk around and taste their cheese speciality “ le ramequin”, the program will be full!
Work: Stabilising footpath so that it could be used by walkers, clearing scrubs, trees, cleaning and strengthening walls. Watch out! The tower is on a rather steep hill.

WORKS WITH EMMAAUS COMMUNITY
Project: A very successful workcamp took place for the first time in August 2003. It was rich of complicity moments between international volunteers and Emmaüs comrades who will rather be older than you. To let the meeting be in mutual respect will be the most important in this project in which work is mostly considered as the first step towards the others. Last year in leisure time Emmaüs comrades and volunteers also mixed very well. The Community hosts disadvantaged people and you will share many community life moments with Emmaüs comrades (such as meals). A small company for long-term unemployed women was lately set up and use the same building. Be prepared to be confronted to yourself meeting people who day after day work hard to find heart to face life again!
Work: Help in setting up the wood workshop, in diverse upkeeping works and in usual tasks Emmaüs comrades do such as collecting, sorting and tidying things they recycle. You will also be taught how to restore wooden furniture with a professional in the wood workshop. Be prepared to respect the same schedule as the Community.

RESTORATION OF WALLS MADE OF DRY STONES
Project: The place where you will work offers a wonderful panoramic view onto the lake, the Dent du Chat (Cat’s Tooth) mountain, Haute-Combe Abbey. The village has an important rural inheritage you can discover walking on several footpaths. The community will host their third international workcamp which we hope will develop even more connection with the local youth. Every year, many meetings are organised with the local community. You will not escape from the Mayor’s evening when he’s used to cook his famous “fondue savoyarde” (cheese speciality).
Work: Restoration of walls made of dry stones on the Cellier et Moulin Rouge ("storerooms and stonewalls") footpath. These typical walls are used to maintain the ground which vineyards will be cultivated on. You will clear and clean the bottom of the walls, carry and select stones before rebuilding walls without using cement.
Location: 20 kms north from Aix-les-Bains, in Savoy Department. The village of Chindrieux is located by Du Bourget lake, a real peaceful haven surrounded by mountains…

DIVERSE ENVIRONMENTAL WORKS
Project: Sainte-Agnes gathers 10 hamlets spred over an altitude of more than thousand meters. In Belledonne mountain, it’s a lovely place for hikers and grazing herds. Sainte-Agnes will welcome their eighth international workcamp as warmly as previous years. Inhabitants are really involved and contacts will be easy all your stay long: Jean will taught you how to make bread and wood sculptures and Grand Joly restaurant will be of some precious help for sure!
Work: Mostly environmental work in the village and in mountain pastures. Keeping up footpaths, clearing and cleaning… You will need to walk to go from one working place to another.

Project: Down Belledonne mountain, your workcamp in St Pierre D’Allevard will aim at two objectives: footpath restoration and discover of the local natural patrimony. The village would rather host volunteers from Spanish and Italian speaking countries to help exchanges with the local population mainly coming from Maghreb, Italy and Spain. A network of local organisations involved in environmental and mountain issue will guide you in discovering and protecting natural richness.

Project: The first time that I met the Mayor of the small village of Arancou, in the heart of the Country Basque, beret (typical hat) screwed on his head, he told me his voluntary peregrinations in Africa, where he received... volunteers who came from France. I said myself that the project would be beautiful, convivial and cordial. When it made me visit the old house that the commune had just acquired, with his baker's oven, his kitchen of the beginning of last century, his lime walls yellowed by the smoke of the hearth, the bitter acrid of passed time... I was propelled in another century... and I said myself that it would be my work camp "blow of heart", with special dedication for the volunteers who will be registered there!

Project: Cadillac... famous name! Guaranteed expatriation, at the wheel of an American big-engined car? But no, nothing to see... Cadillac is a village of the Gironde, crossed by the Garonne, old “bastide” with the imposing ramparts and famous for his wine, his castle of the Dukes of Epernon and... his psychiatric hospital! And Cadillac remains a site of world camps... it will be the third in 2004. Guaranteed sympathetic reception, dynamic municipality, convivial and smiles!!! And per hour of multiplex urban, true image factories, it exists still small cinemas in rural cities, managed by volunteers, supported by the municipality... it is the case at Cadillac which has just acquired the room. The world camp will aim to work on the environment close to this cinema... which is integrated in the old ramparts of the city: work of setting in safety and undergrowth clearance and cleaning... What a film!

Project: A few kilometres from Bayonne, dominating the Adour river... a beautiful village, perched over a hill, its historic church, in the heart of the borough... and the bell-tower of the church, which you will climb, will go down, climb, go down... until to lose breath! But not any bell-tower, no, a bell-tower of the south west of France, a cordial bell-tower... And you will climb it, descend it, climb it, descend it... oups! Be careful with step! The idea is simple: to restore inside of the bell-tower to allow some tourists to be able to go up... and admire the traditional architecture of the Monument, at the same time as of extasier on the quality of your work! ENVIRONMENT
Project: The commune of Saint-Martin-Valmeroux welcome a workcamp of Concordia for the first time. The aim of the workcamp is to create some activities with the volunteers in order to raise the local youth’s awareness of the project and the exchange. We are counting on the local associations to multiply the exchanges.
The group will work at an ancient mill (that in former times fabricated oil). The site is destined to become a museum. It will allow the participants to become familiar with the local history and to take part in the life of the inhabitants.
Work: Renovate an ancient mill : cleaning and cutting of plants around the mill, cleaning (mud and vegetation) and restoration of the walls of the canal which leads to the mill

ENVIRONMENT
Project: Throughout the last three years, Concordia has been carrying out workcamps in the different communes of the community “Olliergues” where volunteers worked on the improvement of hiking paths. This partnership is very successful, because it leads to lots of exchanges with local population and to the integration of some young local people in the project.
This year’s workcamp will take place in the communes of Saint-Pierre-la-Bourlhonne and Vertolaye, and the tasks will be to improve the hiking path that connects the two communes and which will be reopened.
The volunteers will also participate in the organisation and dismantling of the Celtic music festival Celtador and in the preparation the traditional Blueberry-party at the “Col du Béal”.
This year, we hope to see the contacts growing in the commune of Saint-Pierre and as well in Vertolaye where the volunteers will be accommodated.
Work: Opening of a hiking path: cleaning and cutting of vegetation and pruning some trees. Building of a footbridge made of wood to cross a river.
Location: Saint-Pierre-la-Bourlhonne (159 inhabitants) and Vertolaye (650 inhabitants) are located 60 km west of Clermont-Ferrand in the impressive natural park of Livradois Forez.

RESTORATION WORKS ON OBSERVATORIES AND HUMID ZONES
FOREZ ECOZONE AND ECOPOLE, http://frapna.loire.chez.tiscali.fr/
Forez plain and River Loire form a humid zone of great ecological and international value. To face aggressions to the last European Wild River due to human activities, FRAPNA Loire (Rhône-Alpes Federation acting for nature protection, Loire section) launched in 1988 Ecozone-Ecopole in Forez alternative programme. The Ecozone recreates a space of liberty of 400 hectares for the river and nature. It’s also an open-air scientific laboratory where revived biological diversity can be observed: more than 220 birds species are present. In the Ecozone centre, the Ecopole is a privileged place for water birds observation, humid vegetation discover and eco-citizenship education.
Project: Enter Plain Forez, kingdom of ponds and meadows, crossed over by River Loire and alluvial forests. Forez Ecopole is a natural and protected area where former gravel pits were reconverted into natural ponds. The site is kept up all along the year by the Ecopole team and is open to the public. Pedagogical exhibitions on birds and nature, shutters for quiet fauna and flora observation spread along a footpath of more than 6 Km long; nature education activities… Come and learn how to preserve this original natural area!
Work: Dismantle and rebuild a scientific wooden observation post and an observation fence. Clear and fit out a reed garden at the riverside.
Location: The Ecopole is in Chambéon in Forez plain, 7 Km from Feurs (8 000 inhabitants and former Gallo-Roman capital city of Forez), 40 Km from St Etienne, capital city of Loire Département and 15 Km from Montbrison in Forez Mountain. Accommodation: Feurs camp site, under tents.

Project: Within the little village of Saint-Martinien, you will participate at the restoration of the little Lady chapel within the church. It will be repainted. The municipality has chosen to organise an international workcamp around this theme in order to provoke an intercultural exchange within the village and especially for the young local people. You will also discover the everyday life of the inhabitants during the numerous meetings.
Work: You will participate at the repairing of the decoration of a lady chapel: cleaning and preparation of the surface, painting of the decoration at the vault and the walls.
Location: Saint-Martinien (500 inhabitants) is situated 130 km north of Clermont-Ferrand and 10 km de Montluçon, within the county of Allier. It is an agricultural region with a historical patrimony (lots of castles and roman churches).

Project: The commune of Pradelles has already welcomed different workcamps during the last years. After our work there at a mini-workcamp that restored the room of the youth club, the municipality wishes to organise another project for this summer in order to renovate and secure the surroundings of the church. The inhabitants will give you a warm welcome, and the presence of a youth club will give you the opportunity to life several relations and moments of conviviality.
Work: You will participate in the clearing of the pathway that surround the church: restoration of a staircase made of stones, masonry at a wall, building small terraces of the ground, painting of a door made of iron bars.
Location: Pradelles (600 inhabitants) is located in Haute-Loire county, 150 km south-west of Clermont-Ferrand and 30 km from Puy-en-Valey. It is a little commune close to the county of Ard?che, which is considered as one of the most beautiful landscapes in France. It has a rich architectural patrimony of the Renaissance.

RESTORATION OF THE CHURCH
Project: The village of Talmas hosts for the first time an international project with Concordia. Wishing to preserve its local heritage and improve the environment within the village, the local council has begun restoring its wells, crosses, marshes in order to valorise the rural character of their village. The village also has several underground tunnels and refuges dating from the WW1. The village has several sports facilities for playing football, handball, volleyball, table tennis, basketball and a regional sport called the ‘ballon au poing’. The village, predominately farming land, is very stretched out and has been growing for several years. The younger generations are more present in the village these days. The village is well-known for its ‘snail museum’ where you can discover French ‘escargots’ and even taste them.
Work: Exterior restoration work on the church which is central to the village and close to the accommodation. You will start by cleaning the surfaces, replace the bricks that are missing or are damaged, then you will join with a mixture of cement and lime, finishing by another cleaning session to leave the joints of the bricks spotless.
Location: The village, with its 1100 inhabitants, is in the Somme County, near to Villers-Bocage and is only 15km north of the regional capital, Amiens.
Accommodation: In the village hall, mixed accommodation. The showers are in the football changing rooms at the outskirts of the village, we will try to provide bikes for these journeys.

INTERIOR RESTORATION OF THE CHURCH AT MONTRELET
Project: The small village of Fieffes Montrelet is made up of two hamlets, Fieffes and Montrelet. They were united some thirty years ago but have kept their local identities. The village is hidden in the Somme countryside, hiding its heritage from the general public. Fieffes has a classified monument dating from XVI century and a rustic church in Montrelet. The two churches are linked via a footpath in the hills. The restoration of this church will help to promote its value to the general public and the local council believes that associating young people from around the world is the best way to involve the local inhabitants.
Work: Last year, the first group of international volunteers worked on the restoration of the nave. This year, following the work of another international group in July, you will work on the walls of the entrance (taking of the plaster, jointing) and maybe on the construction of a stone arch. For this work, you will be using scaffolding. The end result is visible straight away and is quite rewarding.
Location: Fieffes Montrelet is in the countryside about 25 km from Amiens, the regional capital and does not have very easy access.
Accommodation: You will be lodged in the local village hall: one room for the dormitory, one for the kitchen. The showers and toilets are one site but in limited numbers.

RESTORING A MEDIEVAL SITE
Project: The town council of the tiny village of Les Aires decided to restore a XIIth century chapel near the Xth century ruined castle of Mourcairol looking down upon a marvellous landscape. For this second workcamp, the volunteers will clear the vegetation and clean around the chapel and the castle in order to put the ruins in value and to help to the beginning of the study for excavations. They will begin to reinforce the weak parts, if they have time enough. Important possibilities of leisure’s in the Valley of the river Orb and in the mountains of the hinterlands

Project: This little town of 1400 inhabitants works, for the second time, with Concordia. This year, the township and the Regional natural park of the Narbonnais decided to carry on the restoration of an old “larder”. It is a large larder hollowed out of the rock which was originally used for storing food which needed to be kept cold. This hole was full and in 2003 the volunteers begun the earth moving so that the restoration of its stone wall. COMMUNITY OF EMMAÜS
Emmaüs, laic impulse of solidarity, was born in 1949 from a mutual aid and help will for all the suffering people, coming from socially privileged persons and from unprovided persons. From that date, under the impulse of the Abbé Pierre, the “comrades” work all over the world to help the more unprovided persons to rediscover security, dignity and autonomy with work and mutual aid. They collect all kind of equipment (electric domestic appliances, furnitures, cloths, etc), they repair and sell it. The profit is used to make live underprivileged people and to go further more in the solidarity.

FOOTPATH UPKEEPING AND DRY STONE WALL RESTORATION
Project: Situated in the south of the regional park of the Chartreuse, the village of Proveyzieu has been a holiday resort for great painters in the end of the XIXth century. Volunteers will discover the artistic heritage of the park and its ancient mills and will work on the maintenance of a signposted footpath.
Work: Renovation, pruning and clearance of the site. Renovation and clearance of the mills dating from the beginning of the XXth century.
Location: Proveyzieu is a wonderful village 10 km from Grenoble, in the Is?re County.

It was a small ship!!!
Project: That made years that we wish, the aquiteam, to do something with association "les Chantiers Tramasset"... association close to Concordia and to which the project is quite as close: With through building sites of restoration the Tramasset Building sites receives young people and less young people on projects of restoration of old man boats and various boats, which traversed the Garonne... They thus initially restored the local of the association then, in this building site, they restore the boats in wood... Thus, this year, an international group will take part in the construction of a boat, framed by professionals... and will take part in animations of association! Beautiful project and if some of you wish it, will make it possible our two associations to better know itself and still imagine new tracks of joint work!

RESTORATION OF A FORMER ARMY STATION AND
HELP FOR THE ORGANISATION OF THE ANTIQUE FAIR FARFOUILLE
Project: The local council want to transform the former army station into a municipal building which will later host local organisations. Leyment is also a very dynamic village which organise the Farfouille, an antique fair, one of the most important event of the region which brings 50 000 visitors on the spot in one day. For the third year Leyment inhabitants are getting ready to welcome the volunteers as warmly as they did last years.
Work: Cleaning, roughcast, joints, painting inside and outside the building; third week dedicated to the fair preparation to set stands, stick posters, make cakes, reception and translation (!) as the fair is the second largest antiques fair of France and then attracts foreign people.
Location: Some kilometers from Ambérieu en Bugey to the North-East of Lyon in the Ain Department. Pérouges, Bourg-en-Bresse, canoeing and bathing in Ain gorge or in the Blue Valley, Ambronay Abbey visit… Make up your mind!.

ENVIRONMENT
Project: The commune of Chouvigny welcomes an international workcamp for the second time. Last year, volunteers arranged the site below the church in order to make it more accessible and to clear the view to the castle and the gorges of the river Sioule.
This year, a pathway will be created on the other side of the mountain, along the cemetery, in order to finish the restoration of this place of relaxation.
The commune is particularly interested in the intercultural dimension of the workcamp and wishes that the exchanges between the international group and the local population will be intensified and that the young people of the village will be integrated in the project.
Work: Creation of a pathway along the church and cemetery: clearing and cutting of vegetation, pruning, earthwork, construction of wooden steps and a footbridge
Location: Chouvigny (230 inhabitants) is situated in the department of Allier, 60 km north of Clermont-Ferrand and 20 km east of Gannat. Situated within the very heart of the gorges of Sioule, it is a beautiful site.
Accommodation: In tents (on sleeping-mat) and in collective tent on the camping ground.

THE LUCKY DEVIL WALL
Project: For the second year the local community of Monts?rs will welcome the volunteers who will be participating at the restoration of the stones wall hugging the church. You will have to continue what the volunteers begin last year. This medieval city enjoys meeting the volunteers.

Location: Mayenne region 20 km far from Laval.
Accommodation: Municipal camping.

RESTORATION OF AN OLD CASTLE MOAT
Project: In the South of the Oise County, this town harbours a superb park and old castle moat. The castle no longer exists but the moat itself makes the park’s landscape interesting. International workcamps started the restoration of this moat in 1998, after a year’s break, the town wishes to host once again an international camp. There will be a small festival at the beginning of this project for the local charity organisations in the town – you’ll be organising something to present to the local population about your project, your culture and the camp.
Work: Clearance work, masonry work and stone cutting.
Location: Le Plessis Belleville is close to Senlis in the South of the Picardy region

FOOTPATHS RESTORATION IN A NATURAL RESERVE IN JURA MOUNTAIN
Project: Be prepared to be amazed by the view you will catch every day over The Alp mountains! For their second workcamp the natural reserve technicians will be as present and full of attention as last year: daily visit, fauna and flora activities, water and food supplies by all-purpose car, etc. Thoiry village will help you to develop contacts and activities with local organisations.
Work: Restoration of little dry stone walls, building of “fascines” (kind of natural barrier made of intersected hazel tree branches), weed clearing, tree and bush cutting. You will work on uneven mountain ground in the heart of the natural reserve helped by park technicians.
Location: Thoiry is in Gex country 35 kms from Geneva and 20 kms from Léman Lake. The village is down Jura mountain in Ain Département.
Accommodation: Two weeks in Thoiry village in a local building and one week in a mountain shelter (2 hours walk from Thoiry).

DIVERSE CLEANING AND FITTINGS ON SEPT LAUX (SEVEN LAKES) SITE
Project: Haut Bréda Valley is one of the wildest of Allevard County. The Sept Laux site is located between 1700 and 2100 m high. Lots of abandoned metal installations remained on the site, which the local community and EDF company (electricity company of France) decided to clear out. You will enjoy hiking in a beautiful and rather well preserved nature. Be ready to discover more about mountain specialities such as « crozets » and « diots ». It smells good, doesn’t it?
Work: Dismantle metal installations from one of the first skiing stations of France, some clearing and fittings on the site; with the help of EDF technicians, you will put pedagogical signs about buried hydraulic systems in which water is led to power stations in the valley.
Location: Down Belledonne Mountain in Haut Bréda Valley, 40 Km from Grenoble, the small village of La Ferriere is located 1 000 m high. You will work over 2 000 m high on Sept Laux site. Concordia Alpes office is 20 Km from there.
Accommodation: In a communal building in La Ferriere and a shutter in mountain pastures.
Meeting Point: Pontcharra sur Bréda train station, between Grenoble and Chambéry.
Extra Information: For good hikers and mountain lovers only!! Works at a high altitude. One hour walk from your lodging before starting to work. Bring working gloves and all you could need living in mountain: good walking shoes, warm clothes and sleeping bag…

Project: Located in the Alps, exactly in Belledonne mountain, Moretel de Mailles is a village where the iron industry used to being important. The railway which was used to carry the iron is overgrown with weeds and vegetation. The village want to value the site and transform it into a footpath.
Work: Clearing vegetation, cutting small trees, cleaning the railway. Restoring a dry stone wall located in one of the hamlet of the village.
Location: In Belledonne mountain, opposite Chartreuse mountain. 40 Km from Grenoble and Chambéry. Moretel is formed with various hamlets connected to each other by a road. The place is isolated and is not well served by public transport.
Accommodation: You will stay in a lovely but rustic big house in one of the hamlets.
Meeting Point: Goncelin train station half way between Grenoble and Chambéry.

ENVIRONMENT
Project: This summer, the commune of Fontanges welcomes an international workcamp for the first time. The aim of this partnership is to promote a local and international exchange as well as a growing public awareness of the environment. Therefore, “Méandres” will be actively involved in the organisation of the project. Méandres is an organisation wich work on environment training. There are some biological gardens and a big house to welcome pupils.
They will accommodate the group at their site and they will help the group to organise the eco-citizenship-activities (particularly with recycling and biological healthy diet).
We will work in order to valorize the small patrimony (bread oven, restoring of a wall) of the small hiking path (9km) that starts at Fontanges and crosses the site of « Education of the Environment Méandres ».
Work: Valorizing of the small patrimony of the small hiking path that crosses the village Puy Basset: cutting of plants and cleaning around a bread oven, replacing of wooden fences in order to protect the path. Maybe the restoration of a small wall.
Location: Fontanges (240 inhabitants) is located in the Cantal county at 150 km south-west of Clermont-Ferrand.

RESTORATION OF A 17TH CENTURY CHURCH
Project: Following the success of the last three workcamps in the village of Avricourt, the village has decided to host three more international volunteer projects, the first starting this year. You will continue the work on the church started by other international volunteers. You will be asked to bring passport photographs of yourselves so that we can create a photo file that we can hand out to the local population at the beginning of the project. We would like you to organise activities for the local population in order to associate them more with this project.
Work: Interior restoration work: painting, cleaning tiles, ...
Location: Avricourt is situated 8 km from the local Concordia office (hosting workcamp organisation), 14 km from Noyon in the north of the Oise County.
Accommodation: In the village hall, mixed accommodation. Showers and toilets are in limited numbers
Meeting Point: At NOYON train station, on the rail line Paris Gare du Nord – St Quentin – Maubeuge
Extra Information: You will probably take part in a class at a local school in order to promote world travelling and learning of foreign languages, bring your ideas.

RESTORING A MEDIEVAL SITE
Project: Olargues is a pleasant medieval listed village. Since 1994, the township works with Concordia to rehabilitate the surroundings of the castle, to restore the covered way (with 4 surveillance towers cut in the stone) and to make easier access to the castle. The main tower overlooks the village. The works of the eight last archaeological workcamps helped to discover many parts of the ancient castle. This year, the volunteers will carry on the arrangement needed for the visits : lanes, stairs, etc. Welcome in a unique natural site in Europe (Regional Park of the High Languedoc).

Location: Najac, on its stony peak, overlooks the valley of the river Aveyron. One will discover the ruins of a fortress from the XIIIth century looking down upon the old village, the gothic church and a nice rural area very rich in its history. RESTORATION OF A RURAL HERITAGE SITE
Project: This will be the fourth year that the grouped communities around Nauze call upon CONCORDIA’s volunteers to help restore various heritage sites along local footpaths in beautiful countryside with attractive stone buildings. For this year: a beautiful washing places to restore. You will have the leisure to visit, to discover the culture and the history of this beautiful department. In the heart of the Dordogne, within a framework of life, environmental and architectural splendid, your project will be related to tourist valorisation in rural area.
Work: Traditional masonry.
Location: The main office for the grouped communities is at Belv?s in the Dordogne département. This is one of the most beautiful villages in France. This is a very rural isolated region and you will be lodged in a small chapel, 3km from the village which is converted into a hostel. If you love nature and peaceful surroundings this could be for you !

RESTORING A SPRING PROJECT:
The town of Nimes is the owner of a wide old agricultural domain planted by the romans in the area of Courbessac. A big project with the organisation SENIM forecasts the fitting out of a leisure area, the plantation of an international centre of the olive-tree and the implantation of a park for animals. In the domain of Escattes, a spring has been fitted out and canalised by stone walls. The volunteers will have to carry on the excavation works begun last years, do some basic masonry and various fitting out works.
Work: Clearing vegetation, excavation, basic masonry.
