For the last years we have been observing the profile of those pupils attending adult education and we have also been analysing their most urgent demands. We can differentiate two groups:

a- Young people who have left the educational system with few skills and qualifications and that are looking for a second chance in order to promote their own personal and professional development, their ability, their adaptability, their employability and their active participation in society.

b- Adult people (women, immigrants, retired people....) with scarce training that are trying to improve their skills and the elementary literacy tools required to take active part in modern society.

In this context, the idea of carrying out a project that may satisfy the needs of these two groups of adults has come up. In this present moment of economic crisis we are aware of the necessity of exploring new pedagogical approaches that may be able to attract to the educational institutions those young people who have left them without achieving the necessary qualifications to be able to get a dignified employment, and that may also enhance solidarity among people from different ages, culture and origins. The project intends to give a solution to the above mentioned necessities.

This project has been funded with support from the European Commission. This website reflects the views only of the author, and the Commission cannot be held responsible for any use which may be made of the information contained therein.

To attract young people with scarce training and to favour their employability. We can not give them a job, but we can help them get it by improving their linguistic and digital (ICT) skills. Moreover we want to create an inter-generational and motivating space to give European added value to the pillars of European construction: migration; a melting pot of languages and cultures.“Light houses and Stations” makes reference to how the need to survive impulses migration, to the hope of a better life, to the voyage by sea and land, to the entrepreneurship and to all the paths and to the meeting of both people and cultures.

We hope to achieve the following results, intellectual outputs, multiplier events and materials transferable to other realities: web page, advertising campaign to promote AE including cultural information and using the software of augmented reality , guide of pedagogical education resources, Dictionary and lessons for survival, Videos and educative documentary series about emigration, a web page including a Virtual Museum where the influence of migration on Art will be reflected, “Lighthouses and Stations. Trip to Itaca” is a project promoted by IES Campo de San Alberto (Spain) in which the following countries participate: Croatia, Greece, Portugal and Slovenia.

All the aims of this partnership are set in the strategic framework for European cooperation in the field of education and training:

1- To make adult education more attractive, innovative and to increase quality by developing new approaches that help prevent dropping out and avoiding social exclusion of disadvantaged groups in society.
2- To offer second chances to acquire basic skills (literacy, arithmetic, ICT, visual literacy....) and transversal skills (learning to learn, entrepreneurship....) in order to enhance permanent and high-quality learning, to improve transnational and intergenerational cooperation and solidarity and to generate open resources (OER)
3- To strengthen the teaching of European Union languages in order to improve employability among young people, social inclusion of unfavoured citizens and to promote multilingual dialogue.
4- Promote social cohesion, creativity and innovative ICT-based content a sense of European citizenship, gender equality, intercultural dialogue, through European Cinema.
5-To access adult education, to improve pedagogical and innovative practices which could be transferred to other countries within the EU and to improve the approaches and management of Adult Education organizations.
6-To promote mobility and circulation of students and teachers in order to improve their skills and support the dissemination of the best practices.

To achieve this, all the actions will be guided by methodological principles that will be centered on the results, responsibility and autonomy of students (learning by doing, inter-discipline activities , socialization) with the aim of attaining a motivational uplift in our students as well as an improvement in their significant learning.

The results mentioned will be centered on a central topic: cinema, migration and employment in Europe connected to the curricula (languages, literature, history, geography, science, math), the key competences (Communication in the MOTHER LANGUAGE and in FOREIGN LANGUAGES,DIGITAL and TECHNOLOGICAL) and transversal competences, which are basic to acquire other competences for long-life learning (learn to learn, INTERGENERACIONAL SOCIAL and CIVIC competences along with CULTURAL expression).
