eXe

This is the application I used to create the WBTs (the educational material) for this event. . It is an application especially for creating web based training modules. eXe stands for e-Learning XHTML editor.
The eXe project is developing a freely available Open Source authoring application to assist teachers and academics in the publishing of web content without the need to become proficient in HTML or XML markup. eXe can export content as self-contained web pages or as SCORM 1.2 or IMS Content Packages. The downloading and installation of the tool is just a matter of some clicks. No technical expertise is needed. eXe is a template-based tool that requires practical zero training. It is available in several languages. It combines a simple and clear user interface with the basic needed functionalities to create a web based training. As an author you can use 20 different templates for your pages. Navigation buttons are created automatically and you can select the skin you want.
I use this authoring tool because I need to create and publish custom digital content, far beyond writing and word processing. Using this tool I try to accommodate differences among learners creating variables that are an important feature for adaptive learning. I chose eXe because of its capabilities and options that are very important. This tool enables us (as trainers) to integrate an array of media, to create a professional, engaging, fascinating and an interactive training content. eXe supports a variety of media and file types, such as text, graphics, video and audio. It also includes assessment and test creation features.
Some examples of templates with technical/didactical interactions are:
• case study;
• objectives;
• multiple-choice question;
• RSS;
• reflection;
• Wikipedia article;
• activity;
• image with text, etc.

I suggest an authoring tool for teachers who wish to create an educational material for their projects because it liberates us from the dependence on programmers by automating programming for online delivery.
