ITTF HOPES 2011 ? UPDATE
Dear friends and supporters of the ITTF Hopes Programme,
The Hopes programme is one of the newest initiatives in the fields of ITTF development and GJP activities. The overall intention is to, step by step educate , support and encourage national associations to develop mechanism for Talent Identification and to offer solid development activities for young talented players, allowing them to get a good early feel for international level of training . Each year the ambition is to field , fund and plan suitable activities for an ITTF World Hopes Showcase Team consisting of talented youngsters from all corners of the world. Since the beginning , in 2009 , the ITTF WHT selections have benefitted from training camp and events in Asia as well as Europe.
The Hopes programme is powered by ITTF;s long term partner for junior and youth development ; Tamasu/ Butterfly. Through a newly signed agreement between the ITTF marketing agency TMS International and Tamasu , basic funding has been secured for a period of six years.

The intention with this email is to provide you with a point by point update on the ITTF Hopes programme as well as the planned activities for 2011.
Registration for the 2011 ITTF World Hopes Team is in full swing. Currently we have eighty-nine young athletes from thirty-one countries in our 2011 database. Our targets are however much higher than that ? and you can help us to achieve them !
We are looking for at least 200 young hopes players from sixty countries to register their ambition and dreams with the ITTF. This would provide us with extended possibilities to grow the programme moving forward and to realize ideas connected to world/wide talent identification and long term support models involving the upcoming YOUTH OLYMPIC GAMES.
The ITTF will also, starting from 2012 , gradually adjust some of the key components in the Hopes programme . We are looking to bring in a national components to our approach and to work only with national associations ready to make a commitment to this very young age group. More info will be circulated throughout the year.
So.. Here is our update ? Point by Point. Please make sure to send or forward this email to all stake holders in youth development, key coaches and officials on world, continental or national level. Let?s get the ball rolling. The ITTF Hopes Programme is a unique approach to talent identification and we are here to make it work.
REGISTRATION ? ITTF World Hopes Team 2011 ; EXTENDED DEADLINE 15 March 2011.
The registration link http://www.ittf.com/youth/ will remain open until 15 March 2011 . This is to accommodate national events and rankings to become active and accurate in the beginning of the year. Please be aware that only athletes registered with the ITTF will have access to full features at the 2011 ITTF World Hopes Week in Vienna 19-26 June. ITTF WORLD HOPES WEEK ? WERNER SCHLAGER ACADEMY , VIENNA ; 18 - 26 JUNE 2011.
The ITTF is happy to announce a new event organized in partnership with the Austrian National Association and the WSA.
This one has the promise to become the NR ONE ITTF event of the year? Arrival 18 JUNE ? OFFICIAL ITTF HOPES EVALUATION CAMP 19-24 JUNE with top level coaches?. And the ITTF HOPES CHALLENGE 25-26 JUNE? Departure 27 JUNE. Arrangements will be made to provide a number of scholarships to interesting candidates and also to active coaches supported by national associations. The ITTF will circulate the official prospectus in the beginning of March.
We are strongly encouraging national association to ; A. Nominate athletes as ITTF WHT candidates and B . Circle the dates of the ITTF World Hopes Week? and of course C . Enter young hopes and young hopefuls (coaches ) to the ITTF World Hopes Week in June.
Couple of IMPORTANT issues ;
- Only candidates officially nominated as Hopes will have access to the training camp and meet the selection criteria for the 2011 ITTF World Hopes Team powered by Butterfly.
- The ITTF will encourage official and recognized coaches to travel with the young players.
- Depending on the overall interest for this event ? potential pre selections ? limitations per country might happen.
- The ITTF Hopes Challenge will run as an international open event requiring national association entry procedures to be followed.
- Scholarships for full hospitality in Vienna will be allocated and communicated by the end of March 2011.

The following events will have ?official? status in 2011;
- Safir International Hopes ; Final entry JAN 24 ; http://www.ittf.com/competitions/competitions2.asp?Competition_ID=2014&category=wjc The winners of the Hopes singles event will earn full scholarships (hospitality) for the ITTF World Hopes Week in June.
- The ITTF World Hopes Week 19-26 June ; ( ITTF Hopes Challenge , Vienna 25-26 JUNE.)
- Korean Hopes Challenge , (Cheongyang-Gun, KOR) 21-22 AUG .. ITTF WHT participation ? Premier event also open to national association. Organized in conjunction with the Korean Junior and Cadet Open (same set up)

ITTF HOPES AMBASSADORS
The ITTF Education Department will initiate a search for three to four Table Tennis Profiles ; active or retired athletes to act as ITTF Hopes Ambassadors. Stay tuned for announcements during the world championships in Rotterdam.
