THE MOBILITY IN CROATIA

 

HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL PERSONALITIES

Varaždin, 5th May – 11th May

The mobility meeting in Croatia began on 5th May, Monday. We welcomed our partners in the morning at our school. After the speeches given by the school’s principal Mr Marko Žiger and the founder, Ms Irena Žiger, we gave our partners, teachers and students a tour of the school.

Although the day was cold and rainy, we managed to give our guests a tour of the center of Varaždin. Our students introduced them to the monuments and landmarks of Varaždin, such as the Old Castle, the Statue of Grgur Ninski, Franciscan Church, Saint Nicholas Church and Varaždin cathedral.

The following day began with the presentation given by our team where our students presented the most important Croatian cultural and historical personalities. Among the ones mentioned were the famous inventors Nikola Tesla and Slavoljub Penkala, writers Ivana Brlić Mažuranić and Miroslav Krleža, sportspeople Janica Kostelić and Luka Modrić.

After the formal part, our team organized a treasure hunt. The participants were divided into five teams and their task was to find 11 letter scattered and hidden around the town center. Those letters formed the name of one of the most famous Croats at that moment, football coach Zlatko Dalić.

On Wednesday, the guest students presented the most important cultural and historical personalities of their countries.

In the afternoon we visited the capital of Croatia, Zagreb where our guests were introduced to its most famous landmark, the Gothic Cathedral of the Assumption of Mary, and were shown around the city centre.

On Thursday the teams explored one of the most beautiful Croatian castles, Trakošćan, and despite the rain, its surroundings, a beautiful park and a lake.

The final day of the mobility meeting the participants were given the certificates. After the ceremony, we spent the morning in the museum of Varaždin in the Old Castle where our guests learned about the history of the beautiful Croatian baroque town.
