Let’s Mystery SKYPE!

I have recently discovered the joy of using Skype inside the classroom and would like to share it with you!

This is a perfect way to bring classes together, contact and use their English in order to increase motivation inside

the EFL classroom. Students are asked to talk to other students, who may be anywhere in the world, and ask and

answer questions so that they finally figure out where the other school is located. It is a good idea to Skype with the

other colleague beforehand, in order to decide on the type of questions and ways to make the session as easy or as

difficult as you wish. You could organize a second or third session where the two classes are handling another topic

of interest in any way you feel is useful for your pupils. This way the cross-curricular approach of learning is achieved

in the best possible way.

I really feel that these activities are able to create global citizens and motivate learners. Below are some of the

questions that my students used during these sessions, as well as some rules that the students agreed to follow in

order to make the session a bit more difficult!

I decided that all students should participate in any way they can, so I divided them into four groups:

speaking, notes, internet search and maps. I was pleased to realize that they all did their part

and were very happy to help their team!

I have attached some photos from one of the Skype sessions in our school and please notice the happy faces all around!

Try it out and enjoy!
