Ferguson, USA

I have been thinking these days about Ferguson, the riots and the reasons behind all that hatred and bottled up anger. I remembered that last year I prepared some lessons at school about racism and since the text we handled was about Rosa Parks' story

we talked about the USA extensively. I remember the students were shocked to hear about the deeply rooted racism in the American society, the existence of KKK and even the circumstances around the involunaty  arrival of the coloured people in the continent! It was sad to realise that despite all those history books they have been going through, thay had never heard about slavery, the Emancipation Proclamation,  segregation, the Civil Rights Movement and the personalities that changed the route of histoy.

They seemed happy in concluding that things have changed…….

Having that in mind, I don't know how I would handle right now their questios about what is happening in the State of Missouri. I feel sad. I can't wait to hear young people's opinions on the news.
