Domestic violence

After listening to Happy Christmas (War is over) by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, we talked inside the English classroom about activism and social issues. I asked the students to send me songs related to social issues that they find interesting. The collection of songs is wonderful!

One topic that came up was that of domestic violence, through Alice Cooper’s “Only women bleed” and Suzanne Vega’s “Luka”. I chose the latter to do a listening activity and here is the worksheet.

I also used the Italian video “slap her” which is very touching and speaks up clearly against violence!
