Nelson Mandela
The first time a class and I came across the word “Apartheid” was in a video I showed them which described racist regimes around the world in recent history. I was struck by the students’ lack of knowledge on the matter.
Racism is a vague notion to them; Apartheid is something totally unknown.
So, the following time they came I had prepared this session:
First we watched this introductory video that offers key word explanation such as: apartheid, racial segregation, civil rights. We had to discuss / elaborate on some points.
Then we listened to “Ordinary love” by U2, watched the video and did the task sheet which I had prepared. A lively discussion was sparked and I am glad for letting them know that humans like Nelson Mandela walked this earth and made life more tolerable for other people around them……….
